Non existant sex drive....

the wife

New member
I am a 30 year old woman with ZERO sex drive! I have discussed this issue with my PCP and it seems that my concerns are falling on deaf ears. He has ordered blood work to test my hormone levels...everything is normal. He did, however, prescribe testosterone cream @ 1% to apply once daily. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now and have noticed a SMALL change howver, not enough to get excited about. :worried: I have since been doing alot of research on the internet...BTW very frustrating....and I have come accross an heb called MACA, which is specifically for low libido, desire, etc... Has anyone ever heard of this? Also, the bottle says take 2 500mg tabs a day but atricles that I have read about Maca have said for it to be effective you should take 6-10 500 mg/day...I am confused...Does anyone have any info on Mace or herbal supplements that will help with low libido? ANy and ALL feedback is desperately appreciated...Thanks, the wife

I have a low sex drive due to a partial hystorectomy I had a while back. It's getting better now but to here my doc he said I should not have had a problem b/c I had my ovaries. Yeah right. Have you tried manual stimulation? I had to do this to get myself in the mood for more or drank a couple glasses of wine. LOL I don't know about the herbs or anything like that, good luck sweetie.

I am on the Pill, Lexapro, which is supposed to be the least to affect hormone/libido...What is the most frustrating is that I can't get a SINGLE answer from my Dr.... he's the one who is supposed to help me, right! My husband, bless him, has been so patient through all of this but, now it's really starting to effect our relationship. He is the love of my life, we have been together for 12 years and all he can remember is when we were in our early twenties and all over each other all of the time. I am trying the Maca, it has no side effects and does not interact with any meds, so we will see.... Thank you Ladies, your feed back is encouraging... I am desperate....

I'm guessing it is the pill.....can you try a different pill? I took Alysse and it had NO effect on my sex drive....

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your problems. I hope you find a solution. I don't know too much about Lexapro, but I'm on Wellbutrin Xl, no bc pill though, and my sex drive is through the roof. My dr. told me it had little to nil effects on sexual side effects, but he didn't mention that it makes you horny as hell. I had to learn that from taking it, and from talking to other users. Perhaps the Wellbutrin could be an option for you, being you already on ad's. Just my 2cents.

Your feed back is encouraging, thanks for the support ladies, it truly means alot. I am continuing my search and hopefully I will find that MAGIC little pill to make my life complte again! I will let you know how the Maca works, if anyoe hears anything about it, let me know! Lots of love....

What about having your tubes tied if you are done having kids or hubby getting fixed..then you won't need to take the pill

We are done having children, I have two boys and two Boxer babies, so if I have the urge ...down the road...we just go rescue a new Boxer baby! I will discuss with my GYN that way I can eliminate the possibility of the Pill contributing to this chaos! Thanks!

Your PCP should have already referred you to either an OB or an endocrinologist. I suspect s/he isnt taking your complaint very seriously, otherwise they would've already made the referral. If you insurance requires you to have a referral to see an endo then insist upon one from your PCP.

You're going to want multiple checks of your testosterone levels, one low reading really isnt very informative. If you get three or more tests that indicate a pathologically low T level then your doc can take it from there.

IMO maybe you should change OB/GYN's
I always used to have a male GYN and, being men, they dont REALLY understand what things mean to women...sometimes they tend to look at it thru a medical viewpoint instead of a womans view
I finally got a woman GYN and she rocks....because she knows what we are feeling and going thru.
Good luck tho:)

Thanks! I am looking into seeing a gyn endocrinologist, however, I recently ran into a SNAG! My doctor submitted my claim for blood work and office visits pertaining to this problem, the diagnosis is "sexual dysfunction" and my Insurance company will not cover any services with this diagnosis! now, they fuck you at the insurance company! As if this whole situation is not humbling enough, having to swallow your pride and open up to a stranger about my most intimate problems, but having your insurance company tell you, you now owe over $1000.00 for blood work and office visits because you have a sexual disorder brings tears to my eyes! Thank you for listening to me vent... I have been running into so many dead ends with this that it feels like no one wants or cares enough to help (in the medical field)... now on to the endocrinologist....

Sometimes the more we think about "needing" to have sex...the less we actually want it!?! I noticed that recently...I went back to school (been out for a year 1/2!), started a new job, moved, and took a pay cut. School alone stressed the hell out of not to mention the other stuff I was invovled in to survive and keep food on the table. But, my boyfriend and I's sex life went down the tubes when we moved! I have not even masturbated in like 2 months...then I started thinking crazy stuff, about women etc...and I am still dealing with it today. But, when I do not let the idea of needing to have sex preoccupy my time, every once in awhile that urge will come! I think all women should have more relaxation time to help you come at peace with yourself and the issues we face every day! Maybe it is time to analyze your life and what you are doing and if you are truly happy...or is this your opportunity to get out of something you are in? Good luck WIFE...I am on the same road you are on and it is not easy facing some things!

Stress, pressure, anti-depressants, lack of good quality sleep, lack of exercise and many years on the pill made me just completely forget about sex for awhile. For months I couldn't have cared less about sex. Totally out of character for me.

I recently went off the pill and switched to a copper IUD (yes, they are safe... lol). Fast forward to a few weeks after IUD insertion and I am a total horndog! :) I also found that if I just started wanking for the "fun of it" (i.e. without thinking I *had* to reach orgasm) helped get those, ahem, juices flowing again.

Also, I found I was able to be MUCH more comfortable with a female PCP and OB/GYN. Men just don't really GET IT... they think if they can get it up, then what's the problem? ;)

I would also request from your insurance company their coverage details. If they cover men's sexual "dysfunction" (i.e. Viagra, treatment and the like) then they are looking at a big lawsuit by not covering you equally as a woman. :) Lots of times they just like to initially reject you and see if you complain. I've been told "no" many times only to see them have a change in heart after they heard they'd be speaking to my lawyer. ;) Post your insurance company here and maybe we can try to help you more.

Best of luck to you!
