Lesnar Destroys 'Taker; Hunter Retains; First WWE Tag Champions Crowned
WWE will never be the same after the events of No Mercy! Live from the AllTel Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas, sports-entertainment history was made. Both World Champions retained their titles in two truly brutal encounters, the Intercontinental title was retired, and the unlikely duo of Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle emerged as the first holders of the newly created WWE Tag Team Championship.

Brock Lesnar did far more than simply retain the WWE Championship in his Hell in the Cell match with the Undertaker. Lesnar massacred the 'Taker in a way no one ever has before, completely shattering his already broken hand and leaving him in a pool of his own blood.

Earlier in the night, 'Taker was vindicated when Tracy-the women who claimed to be having an affair with him-admitted that it really was a long time ago, and Paul Heyman made her lie about it. But that was little consolation to the Undertaker, who failed in his valiant effort to wrest the WWE Championship from the unstoppable Brock Lesnar.

In the night's awesome co-main event, Triple H was successful in defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Intercontinental Champion Kane. Enraged over Hunter's accusations of murder and other unspeakable atrocities, Kane unleashed all his fury against "the Game", but outside interference from Ric Flair helped tip the scales in Hunter's favor. Once Kane got caught in the Pedigree, it was all over but the shouting. The match ended the 23-year history of the Intercontinental title, as with Triple H's victory that championship was officially absorbed into the World Heavyweight Championship.

The crowd was brought to its feet by the outstanding finals of the WWE Tag Team Championship tournament. After more than 20 minutes of non-stop twists and turns, Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle finally scored the decisive win over Edge & Rey Mysterio when Edge had no choice but to tap out to the anklelock in the middle of the ring! The new championship is the first tag title created by WWE in 31 years.

In other title action, Chris Jericho & Christian retained WWE's original World Tag Team Championship with a win over Booker T & Goldust, Jamie Noble kept his Cruiserweight title by pinning Tajiri, and Women's Champion Trish Stratus also enjoyed success in her defense against Victoria.

Also, Rob Van Dam added his name to the elite list of those who can claim to have cleanly defeated Ric Flair. Torrie Wilson got some satisfaction with a win over Dawn Marie, although Torrie's father Al insisted that he never had intimate relations with Dawn Marie!

The backstage area had its share of controversy as well. Out for payback, Kurt Angle jumped Chavo Guerrero Jr. behind closed doors, but Eddie never came to his nephew's aid because he thought Angle & Benoit were tricking him! And in a shocking turn of events, Big Show manhandled Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff, demanding to be included in more Raw main events! Where will all this lead? You'll just have to tune in to Raw and SmackDown! to find out.

Bautista is a beast. That's going to be a battle of the ages between those two, Brock ad he. Last year I saw a dark match before Raw, it was Tazz and Spike, as the tag champs, versus Brock and Bautista, or at the time Levithian. Tazz and Spike defended the title, but a year later Brock is manhandling everyone. I think Bautista will do the same.
