Night Sweats While Bulking?

Ganryu

Well-known member
Hello:
I have a question for the diet experts on the board. I started a bulking diet on Monday. The diet is pretty clean, about 5,000 cals. But, starting on Tues. night and every night since, I have been waking up SOAKED with sweat. I have never had this problem before normally, but this is my first time trying to bulk up. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am not on any other supps other than a multi-vitamin. One good thing about it is that it gets me out of bed to eat.:) Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

Ah... normally the night sweats are from the roids... not your diet...

I get terrible night sweats on just about any roid...

Thanks for the reply. I have read that a lot of people get terrible night sweats on gear/thermos, but not just from eating more. Well, a lot more. Just to clarify, not on any gear, never have been (6'2" 205 lbs). With that great of a physique, who needs gear?:)

When you up your calories your body may adjust by increasing your metabolism. Sort of like throwing more coal on a fire. The more I eat, the more I sweat. Never had a problem with night sweats though.

That had crossed my mind also. I am just too much of a novice to know if that is possible or not. Also, I have never eaten this much right before bed before. Could that be another contributing factor?

If your body hasn't had much experience with taking in food right before bed the night sweats might be caused by your need to metabolize food while asleep.

Exactly what foods are you eating right before bed? Are you drinking water with your last meal?

Certain foods cause more of a rise in body heat than others. If you give us a list of the foods you're eating it might help.

I suppose that might help...:) I have been eating:

Eggs (whites and some whole)
Steak
Chicken
Brown Rice
Pasta
Potatoes
Yams
Ground Beef
Fish (but none yet)
Etc.

Right before bed I have been eating 2 chicken breasts with a glass of skim milk. Would water be better?

Ganryu, if you are not taking steroids or thermos I have no explianation for your night sweats. They probably are not related to your diet or training directly. You might wish to see your doctor for a checkup. How many cals were you one before you started bulking?

are you on any medications unrelated to bodybuilding? lots of different meds can cause night sweats as a side. I've been on paxil for depression for over a year and had sweats for the first few months on it.

You're welcome bro. It may be possible that you are experiencing some increased thermogenosis for the higher caloric intake. Are you having more sweating than usual at other times of the day as well though?

Well BBF, I never really kept track before to be honest. I ate pretty clean (mostly) ;), but not in this quantity. Plus, I would eat three big meals per day, not eating after usually 7:00 PM or so. Wish I could supply more info, but I can't. I understand you can only reply to what you have been given, so thanks in advance for trying to help.

I feel normal all day, and when I go to sleep. But I wake up with the sweats. DAMN! I forgot one other change...I also haven't drank any sodas/sugar drinks in 4 days, just water (about 64 oz per day). I was doing 3-4 sodas per day (sometimes Diet Coke, sometimes Dew). Does that make a difference? I am sorry I forgot to mention it earlier, but I try not to think about soda, as I miss it a lot!

No, it shouldn't matter as far as the night sweating. You will lose a little water weight from not drinking them, but that should be taking care of by now and you would have just peed out a couple of ibs over the course of a couple of days. You wouldn't notice the difference. If you are doing a clean bulk you'll want to stay away from the sodas. On the high calories diet you are on, those refined sugar cals in the sodas will not be burned for fuel, and most of them will find their way to your adipose tissue. It was a good choice. A diet soda a day shouldn't hurt much though. I find diet dr. pepper helps me keep my sanity when on a low carb diet.

Thanks BFB. I really want to keep this diet as clean as possible. Now I just have to tweak my workout I think.:)
