newbie question

i've lost quite some weight over the past year. i'm not sure how much, but approx. 30-40 lbs, going from about 200 to 170 lbs. my pants waist size has gone down from 40" to 35". i'm a male. during this year, i've eaten less and healthier, but i've done hardly any exercise. i look much better than before because i'm thinner, but i still have a flabby stomach.

so my question is: what can i do about my stomach?

if i exercise only my abs (e.g., by doing crunches), i'm sure i'll build my ab muscles, but will that make the flabbiness go away?

please explain any technical terms you use. thanks.

will it make the flab go away - NO

keep doing what your doing.(diet wise) But add some exercise in there. this will build muscle, increase metabolism, and a whole bunch else.

This has been covered time and time again. . you cannot spot reduce.

You need to engage in extreme physical activity and burn calories.

strength training is key!! you need the muscle to help speed up your metabolism to burn fat!! i agree with swain as well..you cannot spot reduce indeed. tb

First off congradulations on your weight loss. You set out to achieve something and you accomplished it. (two thumbs up)

Now why on earth would you want to "only" exercise your abs ?

My brother.....get started on an exercise program for your whole body. You don`t have to do a hardcore bodybuilding workout to reap the benefits of overall health and fitness not to mention a better looking / functioning body that lifting weights can and will deliver. However...once you start lifting you might get hooked and the possibilities are endless........................

You already acheived one goal you can acheive more.

Remember this....... you carry fat around.......muscle carries you around !!!!

not only will you lose the fat around your midsection with training, youll tone up all over man....the benefits are too numerous to list...definetly get yourself a good program

Difference between developing and revealing abs. You are talking about revealing.

Also, I suggest you consider looking at another metric rather than weight to measure progress. Try using body fat % instead.

thanks, everyone. nice to meet you all.

ya, i guess i should do some overall exercise, although i'd like to concentrate on my upper body because my leg muscles are pretty big because i do a good deal of walking.

but does it have to be weightlifting? what about aerobics or something else i can do around the house? (all i can think of is crunches and jumping jacks)

d3track, if you get an emulator program called mame, you can play Qbert and tons of other classics on your computer: http://www.mame.net/

no offence bro but this is board full of weight trainers ...maybe you need a cardio bunny forum..asking bodybuilders if crunches and jumping jacks is enough is almost an insult
