Newbie Got some questions

Ok, I'm 22, about 5'10 and weight 170 have been lifting for about 3 years now. About two months ago I had surgery on my labral muscle which was reattached. Next week its time for me to go back to the gym to start lifting again. My questions are, do I need to start off with machines or should i start off with free weights? I have been doing physical therapy since the week after surgery with weights up to 5lbs. If anyone has any tips for me please help me out!

Thanks:D

When I was coming back from my last knee injury I started with machines until I built some functional strength back. Just take it easy and don't push yourself until you are sure you are ready.
