New Texas laws that suck

in the past couple months 2 laws have been passed in Texas that suck.

For instance, the first and most ridiculous law is "hate crimes legislation"

This law was passed last month, so for instance----

If I get into an altercation with a black dude, we get in a fight, both get arrested, he will MOST DEFINATELY tell his black attorney that it was racially motivated. I called him a nigger, blah blah blah. Ok so he gets off scott free and I'm now on trial for a felony hate crime. Hopefully the jury will show mercy, cause I could get 20-30 years.

Now, lets say he beat my ass cause I was white, and he hates white people. He would never get convicted for one obvious reason. There WILL be several black jurors at his trial, and if you think a black juror would convict a fellow brotha of racism, you are kidding yourself.

The double standard in this country is unbelievable, and now we have a law in Texas that justifies it.

not as bad as law one, but it still sucks.

No open alchohol containers anywhere in your car. The driver could never drink, but the passangers could. So now it looks like my road trips will be no fun from now on.

Tom Kamb is totally on the hatecrime subject. It's a ridiculous law. What if I(a cracker) hate white people? well..according to this law, it doesn't matter, it's just a regular crime for me to beat someone. the real kicker is that if these idiots would enforce the laws that ALREADY exist we wouldn't need all this shit.
the only reason things like this happen is so that these legislators can increase there constituents.

The Hate Crime law is ridiculous..... however... I think it will be very hard to prove against someone and it would not be used unless it was in the public spotlight..you have to remember that a lot of these laws are made by politicians who respond to the Media Outcry (look what happened to steroids) of the week... And being that most policticians (not all) care only about how good they look to the public (whose opinions are formed by the media) they respond by doing something to stop this "Injustice"... If a white guy and a black guy get into a fight and both get arrested..the black man (or white man) could claim it was a hate crime...however... unless the white guy is a skin head, white sheet wearing, tattooed with hate symbols..the crime will not be charged...same as if the Black guy was a Black Panther, walking around saying he is going to beat the fuck outta the first white dude he sees....... then maybe a charge of hate crime... Now say you have 4 white hillbillys (sorry to my southern bro's) who are driving down a country road and see a young black boy walking....they stop....beat the fuck outt him for no reason and tell him that "Niggers don't belong here boy..We're gonna kill you nigger" and then they leave him for dead.... Then you will see the Hate Crime... However..in my opinion... the 4 should be charged under regular laws that effect the rest of us..and for a crime as viscious and senseless as what they commited...they should be put away for a very long time..... anyway I think I have ranted enough here............

BTW... I agree with the second law.........no alcohol in the vehicle...I've seen a lot of accidents due simply to alcohol.....

Just brings Texas in line with the rest of the 20th century.

I noticed the only hate crimes you could think of were Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Both of these happened 7 or 8 years ago. And all the guilty parties recieved the death penalty.

Why do you think this bill will prevent hate crimes? You will get the death penalty in Texas for killing someone anyway, yet people are murdered every day.

How do you know it was a hate crime?? Its just another exuse that the attorneys will abuse.

I also noticed that you said the law is in place to protect blacks and gays. Through your ignorance, you have proved my entire point.

And about your little drinking and driving comment. Maybe you didn't understand me. I was referring to drinking in the back seat on a road trip. I figured that was understood, but not for someone of your intellegence.

since we as humans tend to notice/focus on characteristics of others that differ from ours, we need to be informed of these things as to drive away fear of the unknown and create understanding. We are all different, the objective shouldn't be to make us the 'same' but to educate each other on our differences. It's quite simple.
this fucked up law only increase SEPERATISM, it makes us more different than ever before. Now, not only are we different colors, fucking preferences, religions, etc. NOW we are more or less valuable in the eyes of the law.

Both the James Byrd and Mathew Shepard crime occurred three years ago, not seven or eight and the two perpetrators in Shepard's crime got two life terms, not the death penalty. But, you don't even care enough to know the facts, just like I'm sure you don't know or care that Texas (and other southern states) have been notorious for unpunished hate crimes against blacks for decades and, YES, hate crimes should be singled out as separate and more heinous than any other because of the excuses given by the perpetrators in the past to get off ("temporary insanity", "I'm bi-polar", etc.). The guys in the Byrd incident...two got death and one got life w/o parole. Not exactly like they got off scot-free, or with a slap on the wrist.

As Troll mentioned, why should two people be different in the eyes of the law? PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE PUNISHMENT FOR A WHITE PERSON KILLING A BLACK SHOULD BE HARSHER THAN THAT FOR A WHITE PERSON KILLING A WHITE PERSON. PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THAT.

Thank you Troll and Phantom for an objective.....blunt approach and answer to the real problems.......I don't think though that the hate crime causes separation....the crimes cause the separation and people acting on others because of sex pref,. color, etc. It merely addresses the situation.....and yes they were created out of politician/media outcries.....question for Naty.....have you ever lived in another country.....where this type of petty, stereotype is not floating thru everyday issues......they have different issues......such as the mid east violence...I think they are at least at odds over land and religious beliefs......still a lot of hatred........imagine if we had that here......we could......the Indians could raise some ruckus.....ever thought about living on a reservation....unless you are Indian.....I think they got legit beef.......

I certainly do not think that a white person killing a black should be harsher than the other way around. If a crime is committed solely from a position of hate then the punishment should be HARSH, whether it's whites attacking another white (Shepard), whites attacking blacks, blacks attacking blacks or blacks attacking whites. When a person is so steeped in hatred that they are driven to commit an unmitigated, unprovoked act of violence against someone merely because they exist in the wrong skin, wrong sexual orientation or wrong religion, that person needs to suffer to the fullest extent of the law... BEYOND punishments that are set for first degree murder.

As I have said before............the laws are there already... in the United States we are all to be treated equal under the law......... as soon as you make special stipulations based on race or sexual orientation..then we are not equal..... Race, religion, sexual orientation should not be a factor in anything here in the States......whether it be for a crime committed or for a job position........ Mitchellm... you have fallen "victim" to the sensationalist media here in the United States........ You have bought into what the papers have printed as being "True"..Unfortunately this is often not the case......... A newspapers job is not to report the truth.........its to make money...and they do that by sensationalism...... Ever see a sensational front page report about something horrible that someone did?? and then a day or two later you see a "retractment" in the bottom corner in small print on page 18 ??? Don't believe everything you hear......... believe me..we have more than enough laws to cover "Hate Crimes"... We just need the prosecutors to go forth with them.... I can almost guarrentee that most of these criminals who commit these "Hate Crimes" are probably idiots who should be locked up in prison at the time of the offense anyway..but were released eary on parole or plea-bargained a much more serious case down to avoid going to trial.......... I understand everyone's position pertaining to hate crime legislation. However I do believe hate crime laws are necessary. Our government must send a message to all citizens that crimes committed under discriminatory circumstances must not and will not be tolerated. Hate crime legislation does not only apply to a single race. These laws are designed to protect all races, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, as well as people of different sexual preferences. These laws are applied equally and stringently to specific crimes in which an offender commits a crime with discriminatory intent. Your average assault and battery wouldn't fall under these statutes even if the offender and victim are of different races.

everyone should be treated equal in a courtroom of law....I know you don't honestly think that happens...because with any type of observation of prosecuted cases this is not happening......let me pose you a question.....do you think M Tyson raped that girl?
suppose he did........the Kennedy intern/doctor also allegedly raped a girl....both cases were iffy in court but Tyson's was definitely sensationalized.....at approximately the same time Kennedy was returned to a low, low profile life with his practice intact somewhere in Arizona......the courts/law have NEVER treated every one the same. I know people of all races that have been incarcerated, some for the same crime.....it was, has been, still is very unequal.......that guy in Atlanta the security guard that the government tried to pin the Olympic bombings on...
they wrecked his and his family (Mother especially) life trying to build a case and hand his ass to the public....his attorneys came on that

exactly. corruption. when we provide more laws that can be interpreted in many ways, it only provides a vehicle to furthur increase corruption.
as the laws get away from "facts" and move toward "intention", the less meaning(justice) our judicial systems will have.
there is no way to know if I killed some dude because he is a homo, jeez, what if he was a black homo? would they give me the death penalty twice? what if i just didn't like the guy? what if i, being green, really hated green people. green people make me look bad and due to the way green people are stereotyped, i was treated unfairly, even though i behaved like the blue people.
the fact would be that i commited murder. that could be proven with hardcore evidence. when you try to probe into someones mind you might as well start rolling dice in the judges chambers, and hope you get it right.
