New PR on Bench Press

Hey everyone! I did not hit a PR on the 1RM and it kicked my ass today. I was only supposed to do 315 for 1 rep as a warm-up, so maybe that took away some of my energy for the one rep max. But regardless I hit 315 for 5 easy reps. This broke a plateau that lasted for over a year. I could not break 4 reps in that time. It felt easy this time. I also hit 300 for 5 easy reps at the very end of my workout. Im sure now that I could get 7-9 with 300 if I focused on it. Im real happy about this, even though my 1RM attempts sucked. I couldnt even break the bottom portion of the lift today with 370 or even 360. I need to do something to strengthen this portion. 335 shot up pretty damn easily though. Progress is progress though, ThanX for all the encouragement everyone, and thanX alot brute or all the help on bench. That speed bench is making a big difference I believe. Also Ive been on NO2 and one scoop of cell-tech,plus multivitamins, seems to help alot also. My wieght was at 188 without any food in me, so thats heavy for me.ThanX again!

ThanX Exodus! Your right bro. Its so hard to stop maxing! But sometimes suffering is necessary haha. I appreciate the compliment bro. Cuz I dont see it. :D
 
I can see that you are doing a couple things right. I will point them out to you;

1-taking the advice of proven warriors
2-being patient with new methods
3-SHATTERING PR's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job. Always going for a 1 rep max burns you out. Go for a 3 rep or 5 rep max instead. Next time maybe try 320 for 5. JMO broly, I know for me testing a max on bench stops my forward progress.

Thank you Polish! Im proud of you brother, and it feels good to be in the company of hardcore lifters like yourself. You just keep getting stronger and stronger. Maxing all the time won't do anything good for ya. Listen to what these guys have been telling ya if you want to make your 405 by december or january. You won't make it if you don't start taking advantage of these guys knowledge. Good luck bro.

ThanX bro! I never really thought it would effect the rep work much. Like the idea about repping 320, then eventually 345 for reps, thatd be nice. ThanX bro!

ThanX Crew! I was always under the impression that if you stop maxing and sending that signal to the muscle it becomes weaker with the heavy weights, and that you must train specificly for that cause to bring it up.I noticed when I laid off from maxing, I came back and couldnt even get 335 fo a few weeks!! Not sure really how it works. ThanX again

ThanX brother! Your super close! Your gonna be surprised the day you hit 5, I was. Ive been stuck at 4 for over a year, and was frustrated. The NO2 and Cell-tech combo seems to have helped for sure, I feel much more water in my muscle.The weight felt real light. The speed bench has helped also I think. Also I finally started training on my favorite bench again. I beleive the bench at this other gym was holding me back majorly. ThanX again bro! Hope to see 315x5-6 from you real soon! :D

Maybe not hitting the 335 was a mental thing. Your mind plays a HUGE role in whether or not you going to complete a lift. There's no doubt in my mind you'll get 405 it's just a question of one. Keep pumping.

i was thinkin...335x5..then 355x5..and then 375x5(over time).
try for sets of 5 on set one and then set of 6 or 8 on the second one with lighter weight. tb

I have a huge time trying to get one of my young partners to quit benching 3X a week, & trying to max every time. He just can't NOT try to get 265. He's going backwards now, so maybe he'll listen. I't kills him that I'm knockin on 300, & left him in the dust (he only weighs 165, though). You'll get on the right track, I have lotsa faith in your dedication and intellegence. Plus, you scare the hell out of me, & I don't scare easily! LOLOLOLOLOL

Great work Beast!!! Man that had to feel great to kill a PR that you have struggled with for some time. Remember that feeling each time you get under the bar, and 405 is yours. Good luck bro.

haha ThanX LongArms!! =) For me its only 1X a week maxing on flat bench, but still, that may be doing more damage then good, even if I dont feel it. It cant hurt to back off from maxing. It is scary though! I posted a challenge for you on TrainOrDie.com along with some new pics in the member pic section. Check em out if you get the chance! ThanX again bro!

ThanX alot Blk! Yes It was awesome to finally break out of that shit. 315x4 just didnt do it for me, 5 definately sounds somewhat better to me! Six was a goal for a long time!! Hopefully now Im on my way to 10. ThanX again brother!!!! Hows your benching been?

Somehow, I found a link to some stuff Curtis has done at bodybuilding.com, and I got a real kick out of hearing him talk in an audio file. You're so soft-spoken, Curtis! And I can definitely hear a bit of that Alabaman in ya, LOL.

That's too cool. I have a friend in Ozark, AL...if I ever get the chance to visit him (I'm in Charlotte, NC...home of the poor Panthers who, up 'til today, were kicking ass at 5-0 :( ), I'll give you a ring, maybe hook up for a workout.

Hopefully Ozark ain't too far from Montgomery, heh...

Nice job. I can't wait til I can rep 3 plates. A couple weeks ago I hit 295x4...315 is so much heavier!

I might take a cycle of 1AD/4AD this winter, but I'd like to be repping 315 in a couple months.

well...so much for a secret identity..:FRlol:!! thanks brotha...that audio was done a loooooooooonnnng time ago. but i though people should know me a little more personally. oh and most people can tell that i'm a "city boy" if you know what i mean. i guess the southern accent is starting to come in more now..LOL. venture over to my board!! your welcome!! oh and ozark is a good 2hrs from here if not more...heh!! always keep hopin. tb

1AD gave me huge bursts of strength so i like it a lot. keep takin that stuff and you'll be reppin 315 in no time. i remember doing 315 for 2 sets of 6 recently. tb

Ya, I don't know if you misunderstood be but I've never taken PHs or juice, I'm natural thus far.

Right now, I'm sort of in maintain mode, I havn't done squats or deadlifts for 5 months due to a lower back injury, so I havn't been eating much beacuse I don't want to get unproportional. But, my chest and back has gotten stronger. Once I start squatting and deadlifing, and eat a lot, strength will go up. Then over winter break the cycle of 1-AD and 4-AD should allow me to rep 315, if I'm not yet. :D

Hey Mj!! The difference between 295-300 and 315 is SOOO mental bro. Though I havent given it a good try yet, Im willing to estimate I could probabally hit 8 with 300lbs. Yet with 315, if I dont stay in that explosive groove, I may only get it 3 times. Rarely was I even getting 4! Strangely enough 300 feels very light for me now, after Im warmed up. Last week 315 felt equally as light also. The Cell-tech and speed work on the bench have helped immensely though. For a while I dismissed the idea, but now I do it once a week. Since your already at 295X4 your not far away at all from repping 315. Just got to get strong mentally with the weight, and maybe go on some supps like Cell-tech, whatever helps, or even tricks you into thinking it works. ThanX for the feedback!!!!!!!

Hmmmm..... You guys got me thinking about it. I kinda dismissed pro hormone, pro steroids a while ago cuz I ws waisting LOTS of money on them at one time, with nothing to show for it. But I did try this liquid test booster, (Testavar555 by IDS) and gained 10lbs on it, but couldnt find it anymore. I may just try this 1ad after hearing brutes testimony and Mj's enthusiam to go on it. When I get some money that is! haha First and foremost for me is Cell-Tech and food, aslong as I got those Im good to go!

Ive been juice free so far also. It makes things alot harder, and is discouraging at times when Im seeing everyone blowing up on juice, but its a good feeling to still be regarded as the strongest in my gym, regardless of other juicers.(though Id be a weakling at some gyms, with the women out benching and deadlifting me) That keeps me going. Funny thing is, when I do 405 or even 435 for an assisted rep, people are impressed like I did it. haha Its like a little freak show! Thats just the way I train, I like to "send the signal" to the muscle. Get it used to heavy weight. No doubt about it, once you start eating a ton and deadlifting w/ squats plus taking the 1AD Your gonna blow up! Id definately reccomend the cell tech also. All you need is one scoop a day. It really puts water in my muscle and makes getting extra reps real smooth. It helps majorly! :D

Damn 315 for 2 sets of 6 aint no joke! Im sure you could get atleast 8-9 if you focused on one all out set. Awesome brute!
 
Congrats bro. It's always motivating to overcome what has been a barrier. Whether it was a big or small one. That's what drives us to do what we do. Keep going to war and getting stronger!

i agree...it is discouraging sometimes to see everyone else on the juice but to be regarded as one of the strongest guys at my gym makes it better. keep workin hard brotha. tb

Yea, I've been researching the PHs, and even steroids for quite some time now. I read people's 1-AD journals all the time, and the gains are quite impressive, for example it's common for people to be repping 30 more pounds for bench after just a month cycle. I plan on a 6 week cycle of 1-AD and 4-AD. :fro:

I think the biggest key is that you must eat a lot while on the cycle.

I know what you mean. Every 5lbs or rep I increase on a lift these days is a good thing for me. Hopefully that will be old new by thursday! ThanX for the encouragement!

I didnt realize the 1Ad was so powerful. I will have to try it. I also got 455 assisted with one spotter, but Im sure he was helping alot haha. That was over a year ago, maybe even 2 years. Yea it seems alot of people dont train for strength as much as size. I go to a family gym, so I make quite a scene there. I havent tried that creatine. Cell tech works real well for me though and at one scoop a day. ThanX for the feedback!

yea..give it a go. it would help to keep your breathing tight..meaning you'll be able to control your breathing. keep it loose on the warmups and tight on the heavier sets. tb
