New Orleans ... Gustav vs Katrina

PICK3

New member
The coastal areas and the Westbank (west of the Miss River) are going to be inundated by storm surge like never seen before in history.

The city proper will probably suffer flooding as a result of the pumps inability to keep up with rainfall, but I expect the levees of the interior canals to hold this time.

In summary, the bulk of the damage will be in lesser populated areas, but the total devastation of some smaller coastal towns is probable.

I wish I had your sentiments
Katrina missed New Orleans and the levees still were uprooted
This hurricane will be stronger then Katrina and the town will take more of a hit this time then last

*edit*
I forgot about the Industrial Canal in NO East... The water rose over the levee. I don't see how this will be any different
The town is also sinking 1/2 in a year... So NO is 1.5 inches lower then when Katrina hit
*edit*

The new George Bush hurricanes seem to hate us

The interior canals, e.g, 17th St., London Ave., and Orleans, were fortified and more importantly have some sort of gate/pump at the lake entrance which will impeded the surge enough to prevent the levees from breaching.

The IHNC and areas in the lower 9th are still vunerable.

I dunno Pick3, they had been working on 17th street canal (used to live in that area) ever since Katrina. That place where it broke over there by Two Tony's in BuckTown has been under construction the whole time...but I hadn't seen any work south of there

Hope you're right

I hope pick3 is right this time!

This one has the potential to be way more devastating than Katrina. Not only because it will hit stronger, but because most probably NO will be on the east side of the storm. Under Katrina, NO was on the west side (weak side) of the storm. I feel sad. I've been twice there for Mardi Gras and that town is special; not to mention the most wonderful food in the world. Just save the french quarter so we have titties forever.
