New here, question about Andro

Hi ladies. I've been reading through the bb for a few days and have a few questions. I am 47 and am in great shape and would like to stay that way. I've been lifting light weights since I was about 25 and also eating well. My problem is I had to have both ovaries removed about a year ago due to cysts, and I have found I don't tolerate prescription hormone replacement well (makes me queasy). Anyway, my energy and libido went to ZERO without hormone replacement, and my body started getting soft. I'm assuming this is mostly due to having almost zero testosterone. Harrison Ford could walk into my bedroom right now half naked and I'd just look at him and say: what do you want? It's terrible. Anyway, I started using a little Nor-andro (18mg. per day) and found that it really picked up my energy wonderfully, but did nothing for my sexdrive. So, then I read that Nor-andro doesn't turn into testosterone! Shute. So, now I'm using androstenedione in very small doses. I took about 10 mgs. yesterday and plan to take about that much today. So, what I'm wondering is, am I well into the "whisker free" zone with the amount I'm taking? I've heard of women taking as much as 200mg. per day of andro, but then there is always a mention of whiskers and deepening voice. (I'm actually an alto now and would not want to become a tenor!) Anyway, I'd love to hear from any ladies who've experimented with Andro.

I used it personally and it was ok...didn't really noticed an increase sex drive...but then again..mine really cant increase much:p It seems to produce more sides than what it is worth..some acne, voice etc...and it is costly!! There are a few women on here that have had stuff prescribed for them by their doc...very low dosages and their sex drives are through the roof...(tnheygirl etc..) maybe they can chime in on this thread and give you some experiences...sex drive=test...

Lithe:

Go to your OB/GYN and get a prescription for testosterone gel. Not the stuff sold in health food stores, the prescription gel. That should do the trick and insurance should pay for it. If your doc won't prescribe it, find one who will. It is legitimate treatment for your condition.

W6, thanks for the response. I have tried prescription testosterone before and it made me a little nauseous. I thought I'd experiment with Andro in small doses just to see how it goes.

Gettinbig, can you tell me how much andro you were using when you were using it? Mgs??
I have read somewhere in this forum about some lady who was using 200mgs per day and did get some unwanted side effects. Were you up around that range?

Thanks

There is a difference between oral test preps and gel or inj. test. I'd still recommend the prescription gel. Andro is a waste of money and more likely to produce side effects without producing the desired effect. Use the sublinguals rather than the orals if you must and I'd have your testosterone levels checked to make sure what you're taking is real. A number of OTC andro products are underdosed or contain nothing at all. Eclipse and Sports One (now Europharm or something like that I believe) are prohormones some of my clients have used. The orals at about 200 mg/d and the sublinguals at 50 mg/d. Everyone noticed acne, a couple some increase in strength and a couple increase in sex drive. Others, nothing but acne.

Thanks W6, I'll definitely be on the lookout for zits! I'm going to be trying an Andro cream called "Viggah" that's very low dose and contains some progesterone. It's absolutely astounding all the products that are out there! There must be about a thousand types of Andro and Nor-andro. Actually, the Nor-Andro I took was a product called "Nortesten" by Muscle tech. It was a timed release Nor-Andro, most definitely potent, and almost immediately quadrupled my energy. I stopped taking it though when I found it doesn't get converted to T and isn't known to effect libido. My boyfriend is going to take the left over caps. He was very impressed with how it effected me, and also that it didn't make me nauseaus.

Based on the experience of a female friend of mind, I suggest you try a 4-AD (4-androsteneDIOL) topical spray. Both Biotest and Ergopharm make quality 4-AD topical sprays. 4-AD topicals are generally superior to orals and sublinguals.

I suggest you use approximately 5 - 7 sprays/day (approximately 250 -400 mg of 4-AD, depending on the brand). Apply in the morning (after showering and after the skin is dry). Wash off any residue in the evenings (after at least 8 hours, but no later than 12 hours). Try a 14 - 21 day cycle, which will be plenty of time to determine whether the product is effective. Good luck...

Cardinal, thanks. I am going to give this andro-dione cream a go (just came in the mail) but even if it goes well I may eventually give the 4-ad topical spray a try to see how it compares.

The Nor-andro I was taking, at just half a cap a day, actually lifted my metabolism a little too much, so I think I'll start in low on the DIOL spray when I try it. Probably just a couple of sprays a day. (I'm only 105 lbs and very sensitive to stuff) I'm not really looking to pack on a lot more muscle, though a little increase and firming would be great. I think you're right - at least 14-21 days before one can properly assess a product.
