Never thought I would get here.

December of 2007, I'd never done a squat. I got 405 for 1 rep twice tonight. Obviously not huge weight here, but pretty good for the average Joe I think.

On the first attempt, I got it, but my spotters were watching my knees and back so close they forget to check if I broke parallel (which isn't a bad thing for sure). I was pretty sure I did, but knew without a second opinion that I would wonder. So, I climbed back under, went all the way until I was sure my hams were on my calves and my ass was as low as it would go, and brought it up. I was really excited.

Thanks for all the info I get around here. It has helped a lot.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I am all ready looking forward to hitting 500. Hell, it is cool to me that 500 is the current goal.

Nice, I remember my first 405 squat. Once you can get 6 reps move up in weight, then you could maybe get 455. Then when you can get it for 4-6 reps, go 5 plates. You will really remember the 5 plate mark.

I'm looking forward to ticking the numbers up, but for now I am staying very true to my weekly numbers which are all still in the 300s. There is also some deadlifting to be dealt with now :chomp:

Ive got a noob question guys, im 6'4, and I can only do like maybe 185 for five reps going only to parallel. I see all this talk of 400 lb squats and Im just wondering how in the world could i do that? Its really hard for me to keep my knees behind my feet and to do a lot of weight! Any tall guys in here that explain?

Awesome bro!!!!

My roommate is 6'5", 220. He is also my work out partner and has been doing these programs with me. Tonight while I slogged out 5 sets of 5 with 315, he slogged out 225 for a 5 x 5. He and I have worked hard on our form from the start. It has taken him awhile, but he now squats ass to grass without his knees passing his toes as well. He had some of your same fears (not to mention he has a naturally trick back), but went slow and steady. Now he has no doubt he will hit 315, nor do I.

It takes practice and being very serious about improving your form a little each work out. You have to realize that your ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joints may not allow you to do a perfect squat the first time you go in there, but you can get a little better each week. I also don't think you can overstate the value of a good, attentive workout partner that keeps an eye on you and vice versa. That has been a HUGE help for me.

I dont understand your saying dont let your knees pass your feet? You do what is comfortable, dont worry about what your knees and feet are doing. If your looking down while squating you will get hurt. Look forward and just do what feels right. If you cant break parrallel at first dont worry, you need to get more weight on your back to get use to it. If you dont hit parrallel at first you will soon.

Right, if your knees go passed your feet then there is more sheer force on them, am I not correct?

And thanks, I appreciate the info
