negative effect from this board

I think sometimes this board gives a false overview of weight lifting. I sometimes read the board and wonder to myself (am I working out hard enough for a whole weeks worth" I do 3 or 4 sets of 2 to 3 different exersices per body part and thats it. I saw a pic of me from about 4 months ago and I look bigger now then i did then. If one was to read this board I think at times they would think to themselves "if im not passing out in the gym or puking then im not working hard enough". THis board is a great great great tool for info and im by no way bashing it it. Any thoughts?

I was JUST having this discussion on another board. I train about 6 hours a week. I never puke. I grow like a weed, and I total about 950 on squat, bench, and dead at 180 pounds....and female.

I don't get it either.

Train smarter.

You mean I'm not supposed be puking after my yoke and flip or my carry and drag medleys?

Its an internet chat board.....I dont agree with many things posted here.

i dont belive many of the ass to the grass, or puking storys (the only times i have seen puking after exercise...it has been brutal rowing, running or cycling, not 8 reps of squating)

people need to change their pre work out meals....haha

I tend to take most things with a HANDFULL of salt.

Stay on here....your mind will be opened to different ideas (be they right or wrong) different exercises, new people

the one thing i will say is....i dont think i have read any lies about peoples poundages....which is weird, but cool

Well the closest I've come to "puking" is doing >90% intensity Full Front Squats after having done Olympic Lifts and Full Back squats...

That is about the closest I've come to a near death experience at the gym, with the bar jammed against my throat, my wrists aching from the bar pressure, the weight of the bar attempting to fold my torso over and my quads struggling to maintain bar speed. I try to grunt but all I get his a hoarse screech because the bar is choking me :)

- No, just different views and methods.

If one was to read this board I think at times they would think to themselves "if im not passing out in the gym or puking then im not working hard enough".
- people that think that should get off there ass and do some fucking research and do whats best for themselfs.
even checking afew websites or books (not magazines) would benefit them (as i know)

hmmm..the only negative effect this site had on me in the beginning was that i was completely overwhelmed by the huge weights most guys work with on here. then i learned i should not believe half of the stories, and that the other half are from people i can learn a lot of shit from. i also thought i was pretty strong until i came on here. but that's not necesarily negative. more of like an eye-opener.

After seeing many of the weights lifted by BFold has made me go insane for that type of strength, the only Problem is I don't think my body can handle what I push it to, but I try none the less...

It easy to become overwhelmed by the amount of weight some guys post, until you look at it objectively. I can hit good weight on some exercises, but it's taken me over 10 years to get there, but we all started at the same place

Exactly, I'm doing mere fractions of what some of these guys do, but that works great for inspiration.

I started lifting to get bigger. If I get to be one of the bigger guys around here (locally) then I'll be in most people's eyes pretty big. But compared to guys online I'll still be small. I think the internet is a great motivational tool :)

Why would they be hard to "believe"? People aren't telling it like it some impressive accomplishment to be praised by all, its just some shit that happens sometimes when you lift hard. Big deal. I along with several guys I know have puked, blacked out and lost vision. Its the way we train, it could be wrong, but we could give a shit because its how we like to do things. Simply because you've never experienced it doesn't mean no one else has.

a lot of it is ego and story telling. i dont doubt that you have puked. it has always amazed me that it is a badge of honour.

i have seen some amazing sets and workouts (including myself)

an i have never seen anyone puke after the most intense squat sets....and i have seen millions of sets

some people have weak stomachs. It could be a weird combination of things. Im just starting out, and it is kind of depressing a little to see guys like needsize and Bfold training for 10 years and pushing those numbers. IM like DAMN, 10 years I MIGHT be at that level. 10 yrs a long time, i want it now. hahaha. Needsize how old are you, what were your stats staring out, and what are they now.... any comments.

Alot of it is what works for that individual. Try inserting a jalapeno pepper in your anus before training. This will make your workouts more intense.

I hate having to sound like a prick on this board, but...
First, why would I give a fuck what you think?
Second, its a common thing. I know several guys that it happens to. I was simply stating a fact, not bragging because I puke:rolleyes:.
Congrats for seeing "millions" of sets of squats in your high school gym. You ever seen me or my buddies squat? Nope, then shut it.
I just noticed in another thread that you've been training for 3 years, I guess that explains it. Talk to me again in 8 more years

There is a big difference between puking as a results of training hard, and gauging the quality of your workout by whether or not you puked.

I see what both of you are saying.

I am turning 28 in a few weeks, I was around 145lbs at 5'9" when I started training, and I'm sitting at around 230lbs now. I made it up above 200lbs naturally, but started with a few cycles a year ago as I knew I had hit my genetic limit. Considering the amount of time I've been training, I should be stronger, there's a blind guy at my guym that only started training about 3 years ago and I cant even come close to the amount of weight he lifts.
But frankly, I dont care how much I or others lift. There are a ton of guys at my gym that can out bench me, but maybe 1 out of 3000 members that has a better developed chest than me, so weight really isnt that important.
And about the puking thing, I've never actually tossed my cookies, but EVERY time I train legs, I am feeling so rotten when I'm done quads that I have to sit for at least 10 minutes to keep my stomach down before I can do anything else

Okay i take your point. i still stand by my braging remarks (I have never associated your name with bragging or read any remarks which would suggest your braging...except you saying you and your buddies train harder than anyone else)

I have never been to a high school gym.

I have only been to (observed and trained at) olympic/commonwealth training facilities and institutes of sport, regular gyms(i guess what you would call "fitness centres" and "hardcore" gyms (free weights, powerlifters, competing bodybuilders)

Yes i have only been training for 3 years.....does that mean i dont know what an "intense" workout is. Does that mean i havent seen any brutal sets of squats.

if your still around in 8 years i will come and talk to you.........If i havent given up on training because it is too intense and hard

All of my 45's are hollow...:)

C'mon ya'll...calm down. No one means any harm to anyone else. Relax...lets get back to why we are all hear...to learn.

If I wouldn't get accused of acting like a mod, I'd close the thread right there, on a positive note. :D

No reason to close it. We are all adults here and we can all just sit back and remember that no one means any harm.

First, I apologize for initiating a potential pissing match.

Second, my intentions were far from saying "me and my buddies train harder than anyone else." So, please get that out of your head. I've stated many times in the past that I respect several members on this board for their ability to train intense as fuck, and I could probably not hold a candle to them. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't think I train near hard enough most of the time. I was simply stating what happens a lot of times when I squat, big deal. I just don't understand why you doubt that. Its not a world title belt, its barfing, throwing up, spewing, tossin' cookies, blowin' chunks, blastin' dinner, losing lunch. The same thing I did in high school after drinking all night. Its funny to me, not something that does me proud. "Hey baby, check it out, I just tossed my lunch all over the weight rack."

Anyway, you perceived me wrong, thats all. Didn't mean to stir shit, I just got pissed that you thought I was being arrogant. Next time I spew on leg day, I'll take a nice pic for ya:)

C'mon endpoint, lets make out...uhh....UP...:busy:
