consider the possibility that you are dealing with copy-protection. you might want to go to one of the many sites that deal with game copy protection (gamecopyworld.com comes to mind) and look up that game to see if you might get clues on this (usually it will either identify the files that are copy-protected, or identify the symptoms). but in the end, if you find that it IS copy protected, you will probably also find someone who managed to hack the executable and has it posted at one of these sites....
in this case, its just a matter of getting the "crack" file, following directions, and voila, you have a fully functional game...
seems hard till the third time you do it ...
also, never underestimate the power of search engines (google, teoma).... copy the least common words in the error you are getting (eg, if it says "Stop 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA", and your machine is windows, you would type "0x00000050" and you might get a good idea of where to go from there ...
in your case, i'd input the game name, the EXACT error, and the format .... it might help, and if it doesn't, it will sometime on something else ....
