Need some advice on knee wraps please

Due to an motorcycle accident (left knee hit a car door) 4 years ago I've been stuggling with my left knee on all leg exercises.

Over a couple of years of experimentation I've found that squatting is one of the few exercises I can do with my bad left knee...but...it sometimes gives way without too much warning. The knee doesn't really collapse, but the patella tendon feels like it's shifting in a sort of popping action. It's not painful either, but it's very unsettling. Once it starts it will continue on any every set at any weight, so I just stop right there. Next workout it could be perfectly fine again.

I can have quite a few trouble free workouts, and then, without warning the knee starts playing up and I have to stop. I've avoided the use of knee wraps until now because I've wanted to make sure the knee strengthens. I've handled weights up to 315 lbs (5 reps) so far, but it can be unnerving because of the left knee's unpredicability. Strangely (or luckily) I've never had a problem at my max weight...yet. It's always happened at around 225 or so when I go for 10 reps or more.

I've finally given in and bought a good quality set of knee wraps. I've decided to use them on my heavier sets, but here's the big question:

Should I wrap just the bad knee, or both?

Any advice on this would be much appreciated. I've never used knee wraps before.

I don't have any powerlifting goals, but I would like to be able to rep out at 315 with confidence.

Good questions. I would just wrap both so you don't have an imbalance doing your squats. Have you tried rehband knee sleeves? These might be of some help as they offer some support and they keep the heat on your knees.

Thanks... I forgot to mention, I always squat with thermal type knee sleeves to keep the knees warm.
