I need some advise on what to do......I am an ex-Football player so I have always traind for size and strength. Now I want to just burn fat ASAP. I am lifting weights and doing cardio currently 4 - days per week with okay results but I was wondering something. I gain size very fast and that concerns me...I want to get "smaller" - I have a 54" chest and 20" arms mostly muscle but some fat too - but buying clothes etc. is very difficult. Should I just do cardio until I get down to the size I want?? or keep lifting?? I am sticking to the 10 - 15 rep. range, with little rest between sets, and I am still gaining size though.....Diet is not too bad but it's not perfect.....

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated...

Thanks

What's the rush?

I think that last bit is important. Your body fat is principally a factor of your diet. Look there first.

I am a firm believer in the importance of metrics. A lot can be measured - more than you might think. You sound pretty serious, so I would suggest that you initially get a hydrostatic body fat test. If that's out of reach, at least get a calipper test.

For cardio, tell us a little more about what you are doing. I'd keep the lifting.

Also, ephedrine is back on the market so you might want to try some mild use of that.

Summary: watch the diet, get measured, tell us more.

What I am doing now is weights 4 days per week, and Cardio 5 days per week. When I do cardio and weights on the same day cardio is second. I usually do 35 - 40 min. on elliptical machine, followed by 10 - 15 min of HIIT. Unfortunately b/c of football I am limited to what type of cardio I can do since I have torn my MCL and ACL in one knee and MCL in another.

I do notice some body fat reduction when I follow my routine closely; the problem is that instead of getting "smaller". I either stay the same size of get a little bigger.

Weights is usually 3 exercises per b/p 3 - 4 sets, 10 - 15 rep. 30 sec. rest in-between - I also do some supersets to up the intensity.

Thanks,

To loose fat requires discipline, particularly with your diet. Focus on that.

Also, drop the HIIT and add that to your elliptical time - try getting that to a solid hour or hour plus. Keep it _easy_ and at a conversational pace. Listen to music/watch TV.

What should I do if I want to loose some size though??? I have about 21" arms and a 56" chest, my waist is about 39 - 40". Now that I am getting older, I am not really concerned about getting bigger, trying to buy clothes is a nightmare!!!!

Even lifting light weights and high reps puts size on for me......What would happen if I only did cardio 4 xs per week, and got rid of the weights??

Thanks,

Become a marathon runner. Limit your lifting to high rep/lower weights and cut back over all.

Man you are growing fast. Your arms went from 20" to 21" and chest from 54" to 56" in a month!! Watch the fork and step up the cardio.

I know it's crazy!! They are actually less than 1/4" shy of 21" So I just rounded up.

I train extreamly hard and eat relatively clean...tons of protien, low carb, etc....

I guess my question in when you train light, should you feel like you trained when you are done?? That's the hardest part of training for losing fat - I don't get the same pump I use too....

Your diet. I don't believe you eat as clean as you say. Tons of protein? From what?

You drink beer?
