Need a basic diet for my Dad....

Just looking for some guidance and help to give to my dad...He is 43, 6ft 1in around 230lbs, and has recently started lifting. Looking for some basic foods for him to buy...I told him to get lots of protein from lean sources i.e tuna, chicken breast....but am looking for more experienced opinions..Your help is appreciated..thanks in advance

if he is just getting into it and he hasn't yet, have him get a physical - just for safety precautions.

as for foods keep it clean: red meats, chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, anpb, whey, low gi carbs (sweet potatoes, brown rice, oats, cream of wheat) and healthy fats (olive oil, flax, efa's).

calorically speaking i'd have him start at bodyweight x 15. see how he reacts (gaining, loosing, maintaining) and move on from there.

so he should supplement flax..If you could would you give me a food pyramid so to speak...Just an idea of my guess would be more of the meats and veggies than the carbs....but I could be wrong...
