Nas - illmatic = the 2000 version of the archies

but check this out...when i listen to music, i look at the roots to make sure it's authentic...country for example. i dig country when it's real country singers, not slickers from california. with nas i dunno, i just don't see him living the life he raps about in illmatic. from what his peers said he was a quiet boy who stayed inside as a youngster...not the slang-banger he claims to have been

Seriously. Seems like people have had the desire to talk about good rap lately since most of the new shit sucks.

Every song on that CD is above average.

best rap album ever and will never be touched..

It's up there, but I gotta say that it CAN be touched. People will compare it to other albums and say that from the first track to the last, it's stellar. And it is. But dont forget it's a 10 track album. It's compared with longer albums, ones that may or may not have filler. If you subtract the filler or skits or whatever, many cd's have a solid 10 track lineup.

Just my take. It's good, but people overlook other albums too fast because nobody will despute that this album is in fact awesome.

reasonable doubt edges it out for suggity

That is also a great album. Thing is, you gotta like the HOV's voice. I honestly believe he's an aquired taste.

Atleast he justifies his thug.

Sick verse:

Music business hate me cause the industry ain't make me
Hustlers and boosters embrace me and the music I be makin
I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it yet they all yell "HOLLA!"
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be
lyrically, Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did five mill' - I ain't been rhymin like Common since
When your cents got that much in common
And you been hustlin since, your inception
Fuck perception go with what makes sense
Since I know what I'm up against
We as rappers must decide what's most impor-tant
And I can't help the poor if I'm one of them
So I got rich and gave back, to me that's the win/win

fuck NAS ill fuckin chainsaw him
