Nails breaking, need advice.

I just posted this in the anabolic section, then thought you ladies might know more on this topic, since men don't seem too concerned with their nails in general.

I am on cycle, and it seems that my nails are breaking more often. Well, not always breaking, but sometimes will bend backwards, which can be worse. I tend to keep them clipped short, but it still happens.

I am on tren and enth at the moment, and taking a slew of vitamins.

3 times a day:
a multi, B complex, vit C, vit E, ALA, dandelion root, silica, glucosamine, flax, calcium.

I am also on a low dose of Propanolol which is a beta blocker, because I have essential tremors. (Benign hereditary tremors that usually shows up in the hands)

My girlfriend told me to wear nail polish, I just rolled my eyes at her. Does anybody have some advice?

First thing that comes to mind is supplementing w/ biotin. Also, are you getting sufficient omega 3's (fish oil)?

I'd take your gf's advice and put some sort of hardener on them for now if they are bothering you.

New non brittle nails won't grow in for 3 months or more.

I'm not sure if it's your diet or supplements or lack of something or not...

But another big cause of brittle nails are just working with chemicals or doing lots of dishes, basically anything where your nails are wet a lot

How much fat do you include in your diet? Not having enough fat will make your hair and nails brittle. I assume you're getting enough protein - that can also be an issue though.

That's one of the benefits of a low carb/higher fat diet - your skin, hair, and nails really benefit from those EFAs. :-)

I am doing a 40%protein 30% carbs 30% fat diet.

Omega 3's are there, i eat plenty of eggs and fish.

Could simply be doing the dishes, which I have had to do very often lately. Didn't think of that. I also got the reccomendation of the copper supplement in the anabolic board.

I will look into biotin as well.

Thank you for the input ladies.

Jello works wonders! Great for your hair, skin and nails...it's the collagen in it (if I'm not mistaken). Easy to do, tastes great, and no one will think you're fruity!

I know pre-natal pills are great too...but not to sure if that would work for the guys.

I seem to recall that too much selenium can also cause brittle nails. Do you have any problems with your fingers going numb??

Knox gelatin - you can mix it into a shake if you want or mix it with some regular jello.

And yes - a clear coat polish like 'Develop 10' will help out.
