One thing I don't understand is how our colleges and highschools allow blacks and whites to play ball, yet they have the education of a turnup?
I listened to an interview today with the Cardinals SS, forget his name, but it was not pronouncable. He could barely get two words out ege wise without screwing them up.
When I played at ASU (Arizona State University) I would see our star players being taught how to read out of a first grade primer, learning how to add 2+2 and on. Wondering, what will they do when they don't get drafted? The odds of being drafted our 1000 times worse than winning the lottery.
I blame it on them, their parents and the school system for allowing them to progress, just because they could play a sport.
There are many reasons why minorities continue to struggle in our educational institutions. The disenfranchisement of minorities during government sanctioned segregation set back the ability for minority advancement. Economic and social inequalities play an intricate role in opportunities for students. Despite the changes within our society, minorities are still at a disadvantage when it come to issues such as education.
Family and community involvement is just has important. Parents must acknowledge the importance of an education to their youth. However, a strong community structure also helps promote educational awareness. This awareness must be taught in the school to help disadvantaged students realize they still have futures despite considerable opposition.
As urban communities continue to deteriorate due to a crumbling infrastructure and the affects of drugs, crime and unemployment. A child's ability to learn in this environment is greatly reduced. Urban schools continue to struggle due to lack of funding and facilities. Many students are faced with enormous obstacles as well as their teachers. It is obvious urban schools have been dealt an unfair hand. These disadvantages distract and impede learning. Violence and other forms of misconduct in schools are direct results of these problems and as well as being root concerns themselves.
Standardized testing is misleading. It is hard to gauge the potential of a student based on his/her test scores. Educational requirements vary state to state/county to county. The necessity of standardized tests have come under intense scrutiny in recent years. New research points towards considerable bias in the format of these tests. White middle to upper class males tend to score considerably higher than any other demographic. It is understood that this bias is often unententional, but it still affects a students chances.
There is no simple answer to solve this problem. We must continue to search for answers to solve these problems or else minorities and any other child may fall behind.
It must be good to live in a world where its always somebody elses fault........

2. African Americans dropping out at a higher rate than any other race.
3. Percentage of African Americans in special education classes is higher than any other race.
NAACP leaders are going to speak about these stats at an AISD press conference today in Austin, they believe that blacks are being segregated and discriminated against by teachers and principles.
Because my mom is a teacher, I have only one feeling about their opinion.
I agree this issue seems MOSTLY Economic and not ALL racial.
There are many reasons why the Economic issues strike the AA community at a higher rate than others.
We have the economic ability to send our child to Private School so we do.
There are many, many different racial backgrounds at her particular School and you see Excellent parent involvement from them all for the most part.
She studies different racial and Ethnic histories and cultures regularly and
If the issue were on strictly of race, all of the white kids at her school would be doing well and the minorites would be failing. That is NOT the case at all
I agree with Matt, If I were president I'd put a platoon of marines in every bad innercity school in america. Than I'd tell them to beat the fucking shit out of every little two bit drug dealer within 5 miles of the school. The kids would be transported to and from school by way of armored vehicles. If it sounds like I would be creating a warzone, well, those places already are.
