NAACP blames teachers and schools for these stats....

1. African Americans being diciplined at a higher rate than any other race.

2. African Americans dropping out at a higher rate than any other race.

3. Percentage of African Americans in special education classes is higher than any other race.


NAACP leaders are going to speak about these stats at an AISD press conference today in Austin, they believe that blacks are being segregated and discriminated against by teachers and principles.

Because my mom is a teacher, I have only one feeling about their opinion.

Natymike I think these are more family issues than educational ones. There are just way to many men in the AA community willing to knock a girl up and leave her with a baby to raise. The term "My baby's momma." just pisses me off to no end....

I was just lucky to not grow up in an environment like that. And it doesn't help that the rap industry has glorified the ganster lifestyle. I think the NAACP should focus on these issues and not blame other people.

Totally agree NM. I am an ardent Jesse Helms basher, the man is about as forward thinking as a Mongolian Kack. The one thing is does ring true on in this country is that a strong family is needed for our children, our society and our economy to thrive and grow.

I'm with you on that Razor. The NAACP claims that standardized tests like the SATs are racially biased but the Asians typically score higher than whites. If these tests could be biased I would think it would be AGAINST Asians because of the language difference.
The real difference is in the amount of work the student puts in.

Agreed. The focus of the NAACP should start with the households, and parenting, or lack of parenting. My mom's a schoolteacher also, it is (parenting)not even showing up....because of that stupid baby's momma's crap....and the above quoted message glorifying that lifestyle, though I wouldn't call it gangster.....more like cowardly.....I'm old school....let's settle it with fists, physical style. This is a really tough issue.

Education (or lack thereof) is separating our country big time. Schools in poor areas get worse and worse (my sister teahces in NYC) and the options for kids gets narrower and narrower.

Meanwhile, presidents (both Clinton and Bush) tout education initiatives like college loans which will never benefit the overwhelming majroiy of poor people.

We're polishing the ivory tower while the poor people are really sucking.

The stereotype that every Asian suceeds is just as false as the one that every black fails. Here in NY there are plenty of hotbeds of Asian crime and poverty.
