Basically put the comment "Myostatin is a transforming growth factor-beta family member that acts as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass. " means, in very simple terms, that within our bodies there is a mechanism which works to prevent us from growing too much and too fast. Just another way in which our bodies try to remain homeostatic. In other words, myostatin is like the "governer" on a vehicle that only allows a vehicle to attain a certian RPM or top speed. By blocking/disrupting myostatin we in essence can increase or eliminate the rate and upper limit our bodies are capable of in regard to skeletal muscle.
