My TJ experience...

buckwheat1

New member
First time to TJ to purchase anything. Planned on getting ox. Got there around 2:00pm and by 3:00 had a couple of boxes of denkall ox to help with the weight loss. Mission accomplished now it was time to have some fun.

Everything was going fine until about 10:00pm. One of the locals was walking with us to show us where a bar we were looking for and two cops on bicycles drove by and skidded to a stop.

That found my ox. Told me was illegal to have without a script. They handcuffed us. They made some phones calls on their cell phones. Then they asked us how much money we had. Since we only had about $60 between us in cash they sat around for another 5 minutes. I knew that one of my atm cards was almost maxed out but thought if I could get another $50 they would be happy. So we walked over to a ATM. I told the cop that the $300 limit was probably close but it was worth a try.

He did not want me to do so he told me he wanted me to right my pin number down. So the cop takes my atm and runs it.

They end up getting around $100. Since I knew that they could give rats ass about the ox. I asked him if I was getting my ox back. They said yes. The gave me back my credit card and ox and took off. I checked my wallet and they had taken my BofA card.

Truthfully, at this point I still had my ox so I chaulked it up as a learning experience. But as we were heading to our last spot for the night, two undercover officers stopped us. I told the guy that we had just been stopped 15 minutes early and the cleanned us out. He asked us want they stopped us for and I told him. He asked me if I still had them. Like a dumbshit I told him they had given them back to me. So he tells me to had them over.

So, I get handcuffed again and says we are going down to the station. My friend asks if he should go down there. And the cop tells him I would not be out to Wed.

So we get in the car and then the cop tells my friend to wait for us by the arch. He drives me around the corner and down the street and the local guy that is with us it telling him that he was with us we the last set guys cleared us out.

He turns down a street tells me to walk over to my friend. Again tells me that I need a script for the ox and of course keeps it.

Things I learned:

- get your stuff early and don't put it in your pockets where a simple search will find it. I took it out of the bottles and put it in a bag but kept it in my pocket. I did stash it in my pants after I got it back the first time and when the guy padded me down he did not find it. He only knew that I had it because I told him. We drove so I should have just stashed it in the car and then went and enjoyed myself.

- when you have stuff on you be careful of the company you are around. My friend that I went with looks like the ZigZag guy and we were walking with a local showing us where a club is. Put the two together and the cops think drugs.

- Make sure that you don't have large sums of money. I took the advice I saw on other posts and put it down my underwear and socks.

Also found out that the cops ran $150 plus $50 on the BofA card

So I was out $250 + ox.

I left empty handed. I will go back.

After all that, you are gonna go back?!

Guess I want to redeem myself for the mistakes I made. Actually had a good time there up to the problems at the end. Went to Chicago Club. Was impressed. They actually had some nice looking girls there.

Also it was kinda of funny at the end of the night, it was the local mexican guy that we hung out with that basically was supporting us since we had no money. He worked at this club got us in and got us 3 rounds of drinks. We thought we were going to leave that night so we was going to give us the 10 bucks or so to get our car out of parking. I will admit that having this guy around probably was partial to blame for the problems. But at the same time the guy could have ditched us.

Next time put the ox in ziplock baggies, and tape them on the upper, inner part of your leg, and under youor sack. Duc tape works the best. The place I used to go to have duc tape there for me to use. If not just take some down with you. Its best to wear thick baggy shorts(not too baggy). This way when you walk tr goods cant be seen. There different opinions on the best time to cross. The weekends are good because there are a lot more tourists down there, and you dont stand out as much. Also if its busy, customs seems less likely to search you. Going during the week has its advantages because the prices are lower, and you usually dont have to wait in near as long of line. Personally I would rather wait in line, than take the chance of being searched.

If your only bringing a small amount across walk it acros. If you get caught driving they can seize yor car, which can be a real pain in the ass. Change shirts before you cross the border, just in case someome rats you out.
Oh, also, after you get your gear, go buy a tshirt, and some vanilla. Then go eat and get a beer, or two. Then head home. Dont spend more time ove there than you need to. And what the hell were you doing there so late? Especially with gear on you? Get out around 4:00.

I hope this helps a little

Well the plan was to leave in the evening but not to late. But after alot of beers plans change. I think the only way someone goes to jail in TJ is if they don't have enough money to pay someone off. The local we were talking with says the corruption is a double-edged sword. The are always messing with people but at the same time if you do get caught with something like drugs, you can make the problem go away.

And your right about keeping it on me. The only thing I needed to do was get out of the store, get into a taxi and drive over to where my car. Put it away and go have fun.

There are never any guarantee but when I think back to all of the things I did wrong I almost guaranteed that I was going to get hassled.

I just wanted to post my experiences to hammer home that this shit does happen down there

When going to TJ have your fun and beers FIRST... go on a weekend... do whatever you need to do during the early afternoon.

Hit the granero before 4pm, take a cab there and have the cab driver wait for you outside. Give him 10 bucks, but not until AFTER he drops you off.

Inside ask to use their bathroom, and if you are at the right place they should have tape too. Tape the stuff to your inner thighs like it said above.. take everything out of the original boxes and bottles.

Have the cab drive take you directly to the border.. right where the bike rental is. DO NOT go to the place where you cross over the bridge.. you'll get nailed there.

Take a bike across.. it will cost you another $7 but you will get across a LOT faster..

I always park my car and take one of the tourist buses across, and sit next to a group of old ladies, If you talk to them a little it looks like your with them when crosssing back, The buses come back all day long, so you can just wait at the bus stop until a group of chatty old ladies with a lot of bags get on it. Also be sure and buy a tshirt or two

You said they "found" your ox the first time they stopped you. How? Did they give any reason for stopping you?

What???? You're going back? Why? I live 45 minutes from TJ and stopped going down there two years ago when the same shit happened to me. The difference was they took me for $300 and then gave all the gear back to me and proceeded to advise me on how to stash it better in the car so customs wouldn't find if I got pulled over into secordary inspection.

Bro, It's all part of the same scam. The Pharmacies and Vet Stores are in with the local police. Fuck that shit. The truth of the matter is that they will cuff you, put in you in the cop car and threaten to take you jail but the bottomline is they're after your $$$. There are much less riskier ways to go about getting your gear. TJ would be the last resort for me. It ain't worth the hassle.

I disagree Juice Authority.

The prices in TJ are what make it appealing.

Sources list the same stuff you can get in Mexico, but marked up by 100%.

If you live close to the border, it is cost effective to get your gear there, and there are very low risk ways to do it.

Its not risk free, but neither is ordering from any source.

Trust me, I'm very familiar with the landscape in TJ as far as where to go. The TJ cops are crooked. I don't think anyone here would argue that point. They also watch the well-known Vet stores and pharmacies and wait for people to go in, buy their gear and leave. As soon as they leave these places these cops are on them like flies on shit. When you factor the costs of bribing a TJ cop it puts the price point well above that which Internet sources charge. Plus, there's no headaches smuggling the shit across the border.

I agree with the headaches of smuggling across the border, that sucks. But personal supplies (small amounts) are usually not that nerve racking.

As far as the cops. There is really only one place to go in TJ now, and as long as your follow a very specific protocol, you'll never get hassled. If you do happen to, which has never happened to me, the owner of that shop will get your money or gear or both back. Again, its never happened, but he gives that personal guarentee.

Ganero Los Alazan...I know the owner and still got harrassed by the police when I was leaving. That place is a bust. I'd steer clear of there if I were you.

forget t.j bro.

why not cruise a little south to rosarito or better yet ensanada.

Never had a problem at that place.

When you step foot out you should be going straight into your cab, which, if you did things right, you would have told to wait there for you while you took care of busines in the shop.

You get dropped off right at the border, near the bike rental.. there is no way you'd get harrassed by cops unless they actually pulled the cab over.. which is extremely rare.

When would you take your gear out of the boxes, wrap it up, and stuff it down your shorts? In the backseat?

Take it out of the boxes.. put tabs into baggies.. amps just by themselves out of the box.

Take duct tape and tape the gear to the inside of your thigh and up near your nuts..

you can try putting small bags of tabs in your shoes/socks as well.

This is where you're wrong. Trust me, I've been shopping there for years. The place is a bust. When was the last time you went? Things have changed. If things were the same as they used to be I would still be shopping there as their prices are by far the lowest you can get. It's not worth the risk and harrassment anymore. The cops stakeout that place and wait for gringos to go in and come out with their gear. The cab is not a safeheaven. The cabbies are in with the local police and share the bribe money with them.

Its only been a couple months since I've last been there.

I've got a cab driver that I use everytime. Never had a hassle.

I'm not doubting your experience but IMO that is the exception and not the rule.

Here is an idea! If they are looking for Gringos all you need to do is pay a mexican kid a couple of bucks to go in there for you while you remain hidden. If the pharmacy owner is in on it you will know for sure because you were not seen. Do the t shirt thing, glasses, whatever so if the kid describes you, you do not have same appearance, you know how kids are they will say he was wearing glasses with a hat. Simply take both off change ur shirt and you are berry sneaky. Your disguise might cost you 2.00 but save a heck of a lot of money by avoiding the rigamorol. Just a thought....

My point is that there is a ton of gear coming out of there... yes, there are risks, but in my opinion its worth it when you only pay half of what you would... especially if you buy stuff regularly... if you get popped by the federalis once you could get off for $40 if you convince them its all you have.. and you'll get to keep your gear. If that only happened once out of ever 10 trips.. or even every 5 trips.. you'd still be saving a ton.

You'll never see money or gear if you do that.

Someone asked why we were pulled over the second time. I assume it is the same reason we got pulled over the first time.

My friend I was with has long hair and kind of looks like your local meth dealer. And both of us are walking with a local mexican that they probably know deals drugs.

Both times, the cops asked us what we were doing with this guy. Told them he was just showing us around.

I know better now. I had read up on the stories prior to going. So I could of knew what to expect but at the same time I never really thought something like that was going to happen to me. Especially twice in one night within 30-45 minutes of each other.

those TJ cops will rape you for everything you got.

especially if you're 240 pounds of lean muscle.
they're not stupid!

Why not just mail it back to your addy here in the states? That way you cross the border clean. That shit would be to nerve racking for me,I would be sweating like a whore in church!

I think lestat's got some good pointers, but I do believe that the cops/cab drivers, pharmacists, you name it, are all in on it together. But some of us don't have another viable option. Denkall var for around half of what you would get from someone else domestic. And heck, I don't even know anyone where I could get legit var for double the price. So next year, i'll be down there in a wig, sunglasses and a "viva mexico" tshirt!!!

I go down to TJ once a week to inject and walk back accross. I would never bring shit back. I sweat like a mofo just from the walk back and going through the border check. They always ask me the same thing "Did you get your shots in" I say "Yup" they then say "do you have any thing" I say "nope" and Im on my way. I just dont have the stomach to carry that shit accross. Some of the Pharmacies will mail you stuff for you to your house. I was doing that for a while but ended up getting scammed twice and now they say its just to tough right now.

I was there last Friday - no problems at all. I took a cab over there and had him wait out front while I did my business. I had everything concealed when I came out, and he dropped me off right at the place where they rent bikes. I've been shopping there for years.....knocking on wood.....no problems yet.

This guy was so supportive of your because he was probably in on the scam...These guys prey on newbie tourists. If people knew how corrupt it is there they would never go back (unless they were crazy lol ;) :insane: )

You guys need a clue.. take the bus into Rosrito.. it's about 20 mins south of TJ. The bus is like 5 bucks and no one will hassle you there.. the prices are better, and there are less assholes asking store clerks in TJ were the gear is.

Hey Virgin,

Can you give any more pointers/specific about Rosarito? That sounds like the way to go, though you still have to get it across.

This is a great thread, we need to get the real deal on TJ out there. Too bad there's no consensus!!

No the general members DO NOT need to know....It is best kept as private as possible imo...

The only advice I will give someone, is to be creative...

go down to puerto nuevo and have yourself a great lobster dinner for 20 bux w/ beer inc. then hit up rosarito for some gear... stay the night at la fonda, then bus it back next day... fun little evening.

Hey ZKaudio, thanks for the specifics. Glad to see not everyone's a knowledge-horder. I just got back from a 7 day cruise in the Yucatan and Central America. I don't know if the pharmacies in Cancun or Cozumel have gear but if they do, everyone should know that customs is a joke on these cruises. Getting on the boat at port, they x-ray your bag but don't look twice at you, and getting off they don't even check your carry-on bag. Could have been loaded to the gills if I knew where to get it.

Oh yeah, I got a killer lobster meal in Roatan which is an island off Honduras for $12.00!! 3 Tails with potatoes and cole-slaw... yummmm!

Theoretically lets say one knows a great smuggling method that is VERY effective...Why would that person want to OPENLY share that info for EVERYONE to see...Do you think that great smuggling technique would still be so great after the Feds and customs agents catch wind of it...NO WAY!

Its a need to know only bassis, and a guy looking to smuggle his personal supply of gear across does not need to know the way the professionals do it...

So you're saying that you do't put the gear in cleavage of a well-endowed woman?

If you just want to bring a handulf of bottles then that would probably work...

But if one were to be bringing in 100's of bottles then she would have to have some MONSTER titties :eek2:

I hear ya Term, I understand why people want to keep things private. I'm just not that paranoid about smuggling gear. I've done other naughty things that make smuggling a personal supply of roids from Mex look like going to church. But, I've never done it and would like to try.

If you are driving, know that hiding a personal supply is pretty easy...

Hiding a few 100 bottles, is not quite as easy...
