My second Joe Ladnier training session

First off, thanks pwr_machine for bringing me down there :)

We just worked on deadlift today. All of the hip/hammy work that I have been doing is starting to show. This is the best my deadlift form has ever been. I did my regular deadlift workout first. The only thing he had me do differently was to point my toes more outward. I think that helped me keep my hips down even more.

225 x 6
245 x 6
265 x 6
275 x 6

Then, I put my suit on to do some heavy work.

315 x 1
405 x 1 <-- this felt super easy! I also noticed that I had a giant blood blister under one of my callouses. I continued on anyway.
440, got it to my knees, felt my hand rip, and put it down. I got a little on my toes too. Would have been a PR if I'd have gotten it. When I looked at my hand, there was blood everywhere! Pwr_machine took a picture of it... I'll have to put it up later.

Took the suit off and was going to do some heavy lockouts. I wrapped my wrists up tight and caked my hands with chalk where my blister broke.

440 x 1 <-- I was supposed to do 3, but my poor little hand couldn't take it. I ripped another callous.

Here's a shot of what my hand looks like now

Then we went to eat at a great Italian buffet. He told us he was sponsored by them, and I thought he was joking. Turns out that he wasn't. We all ate for free! :D

You're one scarey-strong chick. Impressive. Especially the squats. Below parallel on the heavies. Is that required in your competitions?

Thanks :) Yep, we have to go past parallel for the squat to count.

Thanks, DB :)

how much of a difference does the suit make as far as your deadlift max is concerned?

I've never maxed raw, so I'm really not sure. I'm pretty sure I could pull around 375 raw, and I've done 435 with a suit on. I think I get more out of a deadlift suit than most people do. If you notice, it is really hard for me to get down to the bar when I have it on. I actually end up pulling myself down.

i can never view your videos. have tried most of them with no success.

You need Windows Media Player for some, and Real Player for a few others. At least that is how it dowloaded on my pc. Try downloading those, if you havn't already. Even then, it took a few minutes for them to come up, and I am using a cable-net connection. If you have a dial-up, that might be hindering your efforts a tad.

He he, ammonia is cool :D

On one set though, he squeezed the bottle a little too close to me and I just started coughing and my eyes were watering.

personally i dont like ammonia that much either. it helps some people, but i feel i get crazy enough sometimes without it, if you get to crazy bad things happen.

I don't think that it is very beneficial in strongman...but in powerlifting I can for sure see the benefit.

I've heard that sniffing ammonia causes bronchial dilation, in turn, allowing you to take in more oxygen. If you can take in more air, you can stay tighter. Has anyone else heard of such a thing?

I think it does pwr_machine, I really don't use it often at all, if it's there maybe, shit kills your nose too, like Liftbig I can get crazy enough.

Just after I saw a buddy of mine take a solid 30 seconds off a torque...and then scream and laugh... we began discussing when he first met his girlfriend and she asked...'isn't that dangerous'? He laughed and told her of the other things that he did in his life (has squatted 1k, had a 2,000+ total in a contest, AAS, and strongman) and she agreed that the ammonia was the least of his worries...lol...
