MY RIFLE (M16A-2)......the rifle creed....

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle, without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will.....

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit.....

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its sights, and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will.....

Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but Peace!!!

The only reason I put NYC is because that is where you are ....correct? All cities are like that. If you want something bad enough it can be had.

And I have been in NYC a few times and know for a fact that it is true.

I know what you mean.

And I totally repect what the armed forces have done for our nation and what they will continue to do....

...but you know what I'm saying:wavey:

It's a Steyr AUG assault rifle (5.56). It has a 30rd mag and 1.5x optical sights with Iron night time battle sights as standard. And it's a bullpup design.
And it competition against M16's, H&K's, AK47's, FN's etc with us it has never been beaten.
It's seen here in service in South Lebanon just a few months ago with your's truely ;)
The big bino's on the right of the picture are used for monitoring AE (armed element) activity in the AO (area of operations).
Here's another picture showing me in silluate (sp'ing sorry) with a bayonet attachment.

Who is the third guy in the pic? I see Hitler, Castro, some guy, and Stalin. Can't read the writing on that one too good.

the dude who chills in libya....gaddaffi

OK Big a few year's ago you would have been right. But the 5.56 is the standard nato round now. There's a number of reasons behind this, but some of the major reason's are the 5.56 is lighter to carry so an infantry section can carry more rounds in the field than was the case with the heavier 7.62. The 7.62 has a longer range ok, but infantry tactics now say that a section should'nt have to engage the enemy at a range greater than 300m. After that range you should be able to call in fire support from either platoon support weapon's ie 50cal, light morter's etc.. arty and air support.
At short distance the 5.56 is more accurate than the 7.62 in that it's not effected by wind conditions as much as the 7.62 because it's a small round moving throught the air.
There's lots more I can give you but I'm off to see Dublin play in a major match in 2 hour's and have to fly.

Your very welcome, oh and we won our match.....
Oh and one more thing. Alot of new'er assult rifle's have their scope's and sight's set at 300m. So the weapon is zero'ed at say 100m and you should know the rise and fall of your round at 1 2 & 300m. I think the first example of this was the Isreali Galil.

To all who shoot on a regular basis:

Especially guys in the service. Did you find it hard to learn to adjust w/ the wind when shooting or is it the kind of thing if you pay attention to the teacher its rather easy?

Mr Muscle I've shot against NorBatt in Lebanon with both the FN fal (7.62) and the Steyer and both beat the H&K your guy's used. Another thing about the like's of the 'longer' rifles like the M16 and HK's is their harder to hide in the field with their longer design. Using the Bullpup design doesn't mean giving anything away with the lenght of the barrel because the breach starts back way behind the trigger group so accuracy is not compromised.
Big if I was to opt for an assualt rifle which gave me the best of everything, and I'm leaving the Steyer out of this because I love it and I'm biased, I'd go for the M16 Colt Commando.
One other thing about the M16 (5.56)-V-FN(7.62) was during the Falklands war the SAS and some Royal marine commando's used the M16 and thought it's stopping power was well below the 7.62 FN.
I'm forgetting of course Russa's contribution to killing our fellow human being's, and of AK what can not be said about the AK47 !. Then of course is their sniper's Draganov which by comparision to it's western rivals is very cheap and robust and very well proven in combat.
I never realised there was so much interest here in military weapons.

a scope on a .223?????

why not Candian Armed Forces M-16A2 comes standard with a scope instead of the carrying handle

Big Buck - Cool shit man. I respect any of the armed services. Some could give me shit less for the military. These are the people that don't understand the commitment that all the services have for protecting the country. I was Air Force and proud of the work I did. And if you think I had an easy life, then I would have welcomed your presence when I was hanging off the leading edge of a C-5 at 3 am in a 33 degree rain splicing wires with frozen hands so this plane could make it's 7 am launch window. It didn't matter what the mission was or what it was carrying. It was important and I did it for my country. Some people just don't understand that.

Sorry for the tangent. Buck, again, cool post.

"A warrior craves not war. He desires peace above all else, but trains endlessly for battle." I wish I could remember the exact quote and who said it.

Send me one of those bouncer :) I've never fired one :bawling: Hey, who says the M16 isn't very effective after 300m w/ a 5.56mm round? I hit 10 out of 10 today from the 500 in the prone position.....he, he, he....;) I'm not really back yet...just stopping by cuz I'm on a break. I have qualification tommorrow and night fire later that night!!! ;)
