My puppy is hurt

Hi,

Thank you all so much for being so nice to me!!! He's doing much better now. I think that they can sense agiatation and since I was so worried he was really acting out. He actually just got two cookies from me. I usually give him a choice on the flavor of milk bones and he usually just picks one, today he grabbed both. He's not stupid. I also gave him some of my old dogs Science Diet Senior. He's feeling like a pig in shit!!! But seriously just five minutes ago he was running around like a nut with the dog on the other side of the fence. He's so cute!!

Oh and Ian-your pup is so cute, but I can't see the pictures you posted. I had a yellow lab/husky mix once. But she died when she was 1 1/2. It was the most heart breaking thing ever. She was the first dog that was really, really mine, up until that point we only had family dogs. I always wanted a lab or a goldie, but it was way too heartbreaking.

Merlin turns six on March 1st.

Flexygrl,

I realize you have spent a lot of money. Accept the truth that you havent spent much, you will spend more, and be quiet. If you can't afford the dog, then give him back to the person you bought it or find someone else who can. Simple as that. The price of health should not be balanced with the cost of money. If you feel you have to make this balance you are unfit as a pet owner. Owning a pet is a huge responsibility flexygrl, and you have fullfill it or find someone else who can. Peple like you that cut corner and bitch about costs, ultimatly abandon the animals to an animal shelters where they die by lethal injection (Financial problems). I use to volunteer at one, so i got to see many of the problems with people like you. While I am happy that you are gogn to take this one to the hospital tomorrow, i am countign the days till you become the negligent abandoned owner, as we called them at the animal shelter. BTW, while this isnt an emergency situation, in every city there is a 24 hour animal hospital or one at least close by. So please dont teach me... Also another thing PETA believes in care-taker responsibility :-) Read their page. Get a pet, take care of it (which you seem reluctant to do), if you can't find someone you CAN.

Reasons to Go:
Infections are quite popular with dogs. While bleeding from their toe nails may be a common occurance, it opens a new door of possibilities.

damn, are you mental? do you go see the doctor every time you get a cut or trip and fall and scratch up your knee? i can't believe you are so worked up about this... this is not a case of abuse nor neglect. you claim to have worked in an animal shelter, yet this case seems to traumatize you. where did you work, beverly hills? there are millions of intact dogs and bitches out there breeding millions more abandoned pups and you're concerned cuz this chick wants advice from the boards about her dog's non-emergency ailment? get a life and save some animals if you're that concerned, but lecturing flexygrl about her lifestyle is a waste of your time and your ambitions.

flexygrl, there's nothing a vet can do that you can't about this situation. save the emergency ward for dogs and other animals that really need the attention.

when the quick within the nail gets ripped off it will bleed a lot, but this is not at all life threatening. the bleeding has stopped, so that's good. the quick is a nerve, and breaking off a piece of a nerve can be painful, but again, it's not life threatening. if the wound is pretty deep you should put some neosporin on it and wrap it up with gauze and an ace bandage. the bandage is only needed to ensure your dog doesn't lick the neosporin off. this works better than oral antibiotics that the vet would give you and is much cheaper. it is also healthier for the dog as oral antibiotics can be rather disruptive to their digestive tract and to their immunity in general.
