So you still have your Aussie? You live in the country right? I want to send my dog to herding school, but I would miss him too much. They take the dog for a week and teach them to herd. I would really love to see him in action. He would be so awesome at it. I think, when I get rich, I'm gonna buy him some sheep, or some chickens to herd. That would be cool!

Hey everyone,

Okay, I'm trying not to freak out. It's really not a big deal but:

Yesterday my 5 year old Aussie came in bleeding like a pig. I cleaned him up and it turns out he broke one of his nails. Well today he's limping and licking his paw.

Should I take him to the vet, or should I just chill out. I have spent so much money on my animals already this year. I don't think I can afford it, but I will do it, if you guys think it's necessary. So what do you think?

My dog was in the same boat as yours as he clipped a nail and started to bleed for a shot period. At the beginning I was upset but when I found where the blood was coming from I was somehow relieved. Nothing major to worry! The second day he was fine...But if the limp continues you might need a second opinion as could be something else besides nail...

Oh and thanks for defending me. I can see Law's point though. My blood boils too when I see neglect. It's really sad.

In your case, I really do not think that it would classified as neglect. If you neglected your pets, then you'd not be on the board asking what you should do. Some people take it to the extreme, I just didn't think what he said was called for. He, at least could have put it in another way.

Yup, that's my boy, his name is Dusty. He's the best! He's actually almost 5, 5 on November 11th.

DONT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT IT. I HAVE A ROTT AND A PIT THAT BOTH HAVE RIPPED OUT NAILS BEFORE. JUST MAKE SURE AND KEEP IT CLEAN WITH PEROXIDE. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING LIKE NEOSPORIN, YOU CAN PUT THAT ON IT TO. IF YOU TAKE HIM TO THE THE VET, THEY WILL ONLY CLEAN IT AND TELL YOU THE SAME THING ONLY TO CHARGE YOU A HUNDRED BUCKS. JUST MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PEICE OF NAIL LEFT IN. MY ROTT RIPPED HIS COMPLETELY OUT AND THE PIT RIPPED THE ACTUAL HARD NAIL OFF.

THE DOG WILL BE IN A LITTLE BIT OF PAIN FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS UNTIL THE AREA STARTS TO HEAL. JUST MAKE SURE AND MITIGATE BY KEEPING IT CLEAN AND KEEPING MEDICINE ON IT (SOME TYPE OF ANITBIOTIC). SOME MEDICINE OINTMENTS HAVE MILD PAIN KILLERS IN THEM LIKE NEOSPORIN.

HE'LL BE BACK TO NORMAL IN A FEW WEEKS AND IN A FEW MONTHS, THE NAIL WILL PROBABLY BE GROWN BACK IN.

You shouldnt have bought an animal that you can't afford. Find another owner if you are going to cut corners. If it is injured, and if it was "bleeding like a pig" then take him to the hospital, before I call PETA on you. As a future tip, the animal will cost more money as the time goes on. It will eat more, require more health visits and etc.

SOMETIMES, ONE OF THEM WILL HAVE A CUT OR A SCRATCH FROM DOING A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT THINGS. MY MOM EVEN HAS A LITTLE SCHNAUSER THAT BITES MY BIG ROTTWEILER WHEN HE STEPS ON HER. HE JUST LOOKS AT HER LIKE SHE IS STUPID THOUGH. ITS QUITE FUNNY ACTUALLY. BUT ALL IN ALL, MY DOG LIVES THE LIFE. WHY DONT YOU CALL PETA ON ME YOU PRICK. THEN YOU CAN COME OVER WHEN THEY GET HERE AND WATCH HIM TEAR INTO SOME PETA ASS AND REALIZE THAT YOUR NEXT!!!
