Hey everyone,

Okay, I'm trying not to freak out. It's really not a big deal but:

Yesterday my 5 year old Aussie came in bleeding like a pig. I cleaned him up and it turns out he broke one of his nails. Well today he's limping and licking his paw.

Should I take him to the vet, or should I just chill out. I have spent so much money on my animals already this year. I don't think I can afford it, but I will do it, if you guys think it's necessary. So what do you think?

My Rott did that a while back - you need to take him tot he vet to make sure that there is no nail in the wuick and they will put him on an antibiotic cream

Hey Law,

I totally see your point, but I am never and will never be one of those people. I also hate people who do that. When I got all 6 of my animals I knew that it was a lifelong responsibility. I worked for a vet for 3 years and I was a Pre-vet major, so yes I have definetly seen my share of neglect. But I am not one of those people. I would spend a million dollars on my animals. I would go hungry before I let any one of them suffer. I totally see your point of view though. Yes, there is an emergency clinic about 20 minutes away from us. But I worked there and also had another dog die there because of there negligence. I would never bring him there unless it was absolutely, postively necessary. I would rather wait for his own doctor who I trust, who I worked for and who has known him since he was 8 weeks old. Thanks for the post though. Yes, it is important that if you feel that you see someone who is neglecting there animals to come forward and voice your oppinons. I just think that if you knew me you would never have said what you did. But you don't. So don't judge me.

Thanks corn and everyone else.

Okay I will definetly call the vet tomorrow. I will have to take tomorrow off, or bring him to work with me, but I'm gonna definetly go. Thanks for the replies.

Irish,

I would recommend his breed to anyone. He is really the best dog I have ever had. He is awesome!!! That's why they call them awesome aussies. I have never, ever had a problem with him. When I went to pick him up he knew how to sit at 8 weeks old. And he came right up to me and sat down by my feet and stared right up at me. I just melted.

He came potty trained too. The only time he ever had an accident was last week. He had to be put on prednisone for his allergies and it makes them drink more and pee more, and he peed in my kitchen. He was so embarresed over it. He wouldn't even look at me. I cleaned it up and my husband told him it was okay and he was fine 2 minutes later. He trully is priceless.

I had my Aus Shepherd house trained in 4-5 days. That dog knew every trick in the book. I could put a huge steak in its lap and it wouldnt start eating until I gave the go-ahead.

Irish,

The breeder told us he will adjust to you. At first I was a little uneasy about getting a herding dog, but boy was he right. He is not hyper at all unless we are hyper. Sometimes we'll take him out and run like crazy with him or play frisbie and he keeps up with us without a problem. Some days we just lay around the house, like today and he adjust to that as well. It really depends on how you are. They basically grow up how you raise them. If you are high energy, they will be also.

Ian,

Is that your pup in your avatar. My dog's the stud of all dogs. Your dog can be the "stud in training" :D

Oh and thanks for defending me. I can see Law's point though. My blood boils too when I see neglect. It's really sad.
