furthermore, I don't get why people compliment someone's eyes. That person did absolutely nothing for those eyes. It's not even really a compliment. It's like someone walking up to me right now and saying, "The weather is really nice where you are right now" and me taking it as a compliment. Maddening I tell you

My kid is about to dominate the court. He's 7. With products from the AF Store, he is at an advantage over the others. None of the other parents are as cool as we are. FACT

Woah!! Your kidding right! You have to be! There should be no kids on a diet unless they are obese.

Skim Milk for kids? :worried:

jenny craig? ;)

That sugar free syrup likely has aspartame, which has been banned in Europe for children.

As long as he's not a fatass there's nothing wrong with sugar; kids burn it off so fast anyway. Better than feeding him more manmade chemicals.

lol he's not on a diet. we drink skim milk here because it's a taste preference. he's perfectly normal height and weight and perfectly healthy.

however, we DO prefer lower sugar items when possible. we try to limit sugar and caffeine. in fact, we dont allow him caffeine at all in our house (sometimes he gets it from other sources so eh).

we dont tend to buy sugary snacks or candy. however today after his basketball game, I did treat him to a Reese's Ice Cream sandwich from 7-11. He realizes that things like this are merely rewards for positive behaviors and not a part of our daily menu here at home.

Lucky for your kid my kid plays on Sunday. She'll have pancakes for breakfast.

What...no sugarpuffs? Kid doesn't know what he's missing. He'll be getting all these reports from the other boys in the changing rooms at school about their expeditions into the world of alternative foods. He'll fly the nest one day and gorge himself on sugary food products.

Sounds like our house Smurfy! LOL My son loves waffles or toast with sunny side up eggs. I make him shakes with skim milk, fruit, a little protein powder and flax oil or peanut butter...he loves it. Sometimes he doesn't get everything he needs from food, so shakes are great to sneak in what they need. Kids can handle higher fat foods in moderation because they do burn it off so much quicker. :)

I'm not in any way criticizing how people choose to nourish their children but do you agree that kids learn to tolerate/enjoy the choice of diet that their parents give them through method and reason (behavioral conditioning) or do you think that they enjoy it through choice?

i.e. I will always to this day, consume anything that is put in front of me in reverse order of preference. Reason, I was taught to eat everything I liked and didn't like the taste of. Method, whatever was left at meal time was heated up again and again until it was consumed. Outcome, I ate the items I least enjoyed first (get the sprouts and greens out of the way) and left the foods that I enjoyed till last. Conclusion, I feel that the method was at times stringent but the underlining reasons were for my own good. The only negative effect is that I feel there is something wrong if I don't finish everything off that is put on my plate.

To relate to this, I once dined alongside a gentleman who had been a prisoner of war. During his trails as a prisoner he conditioned himself to eat absolutely every morsel of food that was placed in front of him, never to waste a scrap because he never knew when the next meal was coming. The host of the dinner was very generous in feeding her guests to the point of whenever this gentleman enthusiastically finished off his plate it would quickly be replenished with a fresh plate. I watched him polish off three plates before I took the proud host off to one side and explained the situation.

You guys are great parents. I used to do the same with mine. Then lo and behold - middle school hit and they are doing THE OPPOSITE of everything I've taught them. At first I was very upset and fought with them. I only have this problem with my older two, not the younger two but now I see it is a pattern and wont stress when they go through it.

Now I sit back and watch the older two (13 1/2 and 12) eat THE WORST diet known to mankind - skipping breakfast then getting sick at school. Eating GARBAGE for lunch. Dinner is always good because I cook it - they have no choice. I dont keep too much crap in the house anymore because if it is here, they will eat poptarts instead of cheese and fruit, yogurt, etc...

Then when they feel like crap for eating like crap, I just say, "UUuuummmm and you are complaining because......?"

Eventually they will realize what they are doing and go back to the way they were raised. They have knowledge (I have discussed nutrition with them ad nauseum). Now they just need to learn for themselves.

It's all good. Part of growing up I suppose.

poor kid is gonna be the next Todd Marinovich. Dude never even had McDonald's thru college....next thing you know he's smokin wacky weed and out of the NFL.

lol DT.

I gather that my son gets more than his fair share of the junk food out there. I dont pack him a home made lunch anymore, so whatever the Cafeteria is serving is his lunch for the day. I also get him special treats every now and then. He actually got a $1 gift card for McDonald's from someone as a part of a xmas present. So one Sunday morning all 3 of us went to McD's and at breakfast.lol. he ate 2 mcgriddles.

sASSY, we have been giving it to him (after careful research on the contents and conversations with the makers of the product) for several months now. He is up to taking 2 every morning. He has not complained of any headaches or any other side effects for that matter.

We go see a Child Psychiatrist on Tuesday to do a medication evaluation for ADHD. He says that he thinks the Neuro really does help him focus better, but he is still well below what is expected for his age

well, i'm my experience, more attention is better than no attention. at the very least, he'll grow up knowing his parents gave a fuck about him.
