My Gym Totally Sucks!!......a rant.....

Fucking great post. Karma to you for making me laugh my ass off. I work out at 24 Fitness in Southern CA. I decided to upgrade my membership to the Ultra Sport. There's only 2 of them in the country. One of them is in Irvine where I live so it works out great. Very few people during the "rush hour" because of the high monthly dues. It's like a mini country club with an outdoor jaccuzi and sand volley ball court and Olympic size pool. It's got three stories, a track, a boxing area and a Spa where you can get massages. You also have your own locker and valley parking. They provide workout and shower towels too. I had the regular Sport club membership but I hated working out there for all the reasons you mentioned. This place is awesome. It's definitely worth the extra $$$ each month.

I remember the good ole' days though: The Powerhouse gym in Centerline in Detroit.....mainly hardcore, lots of competitors, competition and camaraderie.....saw Ron Love all the time, great guy....Lenda Murray helped prepare me for my first show......Are there any gyms like this anymore????

Detroit area has alot of kickass gyms still here, i know, i live there. there is a pretty new powerhouse built down on jefferson, pretty hardcore. you should think about moving back :D
 
You think your gym sucks?? At least you can switch to another gym if you would like, being from Houston and all. I just moved to Galveston. There are 2 gyms in the entire city from what I know. Both have only one squat rack, no incline barbell press, no military barbell press, no true pull up or dip bars (only that damn attachment to the cable machine that sucks), no T-bar, dumbells only go up to 110, one decline bench, no hack squat machine, and there has to be more missing but I have only lived in the city for 3 days (2 workouts). So consider yourself lucky!!

I would consider it but my wife would kill me!! She's my converted southern bell. Definitely better gyms there though, your right....of course, I could workout in my front yard in January and your freezing your ass off!! :D

oh man i definitely feel you bro. :) i have some interesting stories very similar to yours in fact. i can't even say what it takes to be a trainer at the gym i'm at because i can't figure it out. well, that's a lie because i do know they don't have to have any certifications. as long as they stay away from me, and believe me they do, all is cool. ;)

I feel all of yall. I am a trainer at a gym...no not the dumbass who gets his ACE certification and goes by it and it alone...the type who reads t-mag...the type who follows great strength coaches like Poliquin, Ian King, etc...Anyways now thats out of the way let me give you a run down at my gym...Lots of old people who like to poke at you and ask what the hell you are doing when you are doing bulgarian squats or glute ham raises...i was doing glute ham raises one day and these old people just stood there looking at me and a guy was like thats a variation of a pushup...i just used his ignorance to fuel me though...then guys in the locker room are horrible...you can be standing or even worse sitting there and they will place there leg right in front of you with their boys danglin just a few feet from your face or body...uhhhhhh i shutter in discuss...we also have a whirlpool which i love for recovery the next day after legs...always a butt naked guy comes strolling in and takes his time getting into the whirlpool or sites on the edge butt naked (once again your boys are too close to me)...i am like get your ass in the damn water...as far as the training its a joke...i tell little guys...you gotta eat man...lots of protein...along with complex carbs for the small guys and lots of fruits and vegetables of course...they just shrug me off with remarks like...."i eat all the time...i had doritos and mountain dew before coming"...well shit you solved the pre workout meal didnt you lol....then they insist on doing 5,000 sets on curls and bench...and 0 on squats...wait there was one person today on the squat rack....oops i forgot he was doing curls :rolleyes: ....on top of that i hate hearing people say how intense these gay classes like bodypump...RPM...and Flow are....how about you flow these nuts in ya mouth lol...and i also love it when someone gets certified they are instantly know it alls in the field...i love to hear em brang on their certifications...i am like gosh congrads on the weekend seminar with the ABCD test afterwards...hope you didnt strain yourself... and one last bitch about trainers ...i love it when they talk about how intense their training but they are talking in the middle of a set...now last time i checked when i got several hundred pounds on my back or over me i am not doing a whole lot of talking...maybe some grunting but thats about it...well i am finished...felt good...hope i can get some feedback on my post...i am going to bed...peace.
 
BioAS's post just reminded me...if i hear another clown giving some other clown advice on how to "hit a different head" of the tricep muscle, i'm going to freak. i mean these guys have like no triceps at all and are instructing about hitting the different heads of triceps. can you possibly imagine??? i must have heard this 4 or 5 times at one place i used to work out, it was so pathetic. and yes, i see guys all the time standing in a power rack doing curls, over and over and over. i'm like do the squats and the heavy step-ups with a bar on your back, do the rack deads and shrugs with 600lbs, do the stiff-leg deads, push-presses, as well as other heavy multi-joint exercise and then come back and tell me you're not hungry or you have trouble gaining weight. you know i wouldn't mind if these guys were a little more humble, but have them do a few curls and pick up some $30/lb protein and they're ready to teach the whole world how to train and eat. but you know i think these designer gyms are a big reason for this bullshit...i swear at my gym not one trainer has a cert. and i know this for a fact because i talked with most of them including someone would wouldn't take the job, it was offered to her, but because she felt it wasn't right because she didn't know what she was talking about, she didn't feel right and didn't accept. she said that didn't matter to them, however. i couldn't even believe that when i heard it but it's comforting to know that some people have integrity. so far, from what i can tell though, to be a trainer at my gym you have to a) have spent at least 1 month in a tanning salon, b) think your God's gift to the training world, and c) be able to completely bullshit people dumber than you. i'll have to keep my eyes open to see if there's possibly something else. but the guy that runs the place told me once, after telling him what i was doing that day, that he does only compound exercises for his bi's and tri's. he also told me that glut. peptides are no good and i should take l-glutamine and that he read it was much better than glut. peptides. he also tried to sell me this protein he deals and said it's isolate...but when i read the label it said concentrate...he then looked confused, obviously not understand what the difference is, and said "it's the fitration that makes his the best protein." the label did say something about filtration but i honestly can't remember exactly what that was. but i don't even know how to respond to this level of ignorance...and what's worse is these morons cannot be told anything, they just love wallowing in it. i'm glad that's off my chest. lol :)
