I want to hear some routines from you mo's with big calves, and CANKLES don't count either. I can't get these sons a bitches to grow no matter what I do!!! I can't even wear shorts because it looks to awkward.

Strap like a hundred extra lbs on your person and walk up steep hills all day, that'll make grow, natural adaption and shit.

Try one - legged calve raises with a dumbell in your hand. There is something very effective about this exercise. A fav of Ken Waller.
5 X 12 left right, no rest ... MWF

that dont do sheeeeeeeeeet but increase temporary swelling

lots of fuckin veins in your calves too. not a great idea

Works for me :whatever:

Hurts like a mother though.

standing calf machine:
warm up
1st set: pick a weight you can get 10 strict reps with (squeeze the shit out of your calves at peak contraction.) then do 30 second partials with that weight. don't count 30 reps look at a clock and go till 30 seconds passes. i can usually get 60 in that time.
REST a minute.
2nd set: use the same weight and do the exact same thing except at the very end you're gonna fascia stretch for 30 seconds. so 10reps/30sec partials/30 sec stretch
3rd set: drop 20lbs then 10 reps then 30 second partials.
4th set: use the same weight. 10reps/30second partials/30 second stretch.
5th set: same weight 10 reps/30 sec partials.
6th set: same weight 10reps/30sec partials/30sec stretch.
7th set: drop 40-50lbs. 10reps/30sec partials.
8th set:same weight. 10reps/30 sec partials/30 sec stretch.

focus on squeezing at peak contraction throughout everything!!! next time do the exact same thing for sitting calf raises. try going barefoot (just socks) sometimes too. it sounds dumb but it helps.

for reverse calf raises i always lower the leg curl machine to the lowest setting and i sit infront of it on the floor so i'm doing a ankle type curl. you should start with your toes pointed to the machine and curl them towards you like you're trying to touch them to your shin. pick a light weight (50-60lbs) do 15 super slow reps until you feel your tibia get pumped and then rack out fast partials for 30 seconds. do 3 sets like that.

I will try this and what mustang said.

use a 2x4 under your toes when doing dead lift, and take long jumping strides up a steep hill.once told to be by a member of the deisel crew

This helped me the most..........

Use heavy weight, and go slow.......squeeze your calf as hard as you can a the top of a rep til it hurts, then go down slow, then back up without rest, repeat..........do it til ya cant do it anymore.........rest for 45 seconds, repeat til you cant do it anymore.

i usually do what alcatraz posted every other day with medium weight focusing on my calves doing all the work (NOT just going through the movements) if you're bored on the sitting calf raise machine go till failure and raise your calves up to peak contraction and do partials that way. they'll get pumped like crazy!!!!

if you do cardio on a elliptical use a "heavy" setting and do it on your tip toes.

Man - i went in to the gym the other day and I saw someone who had arms the size of my quads and yet his calves and legs were the size of his forearms. It just looked whack. Seriously why do people do that to themselves?

I've been paying crazy attention to my calves over the last 2 months. You don't have to go heavy...just smart. I'll do standing calve raises in the squat rack to warm them up, start with 225 then go up to 315 for 2 sets at each weight. In between sets I stretch them below parallel on a stool.

Then i do the seated calve raise machine with my toes pointed outward; I focus all my attention to the inside head, contracting it slowly and keeping constant tension through 80% of a complete rep. My calves are growing from this.

Genetics. My dads calves are bigger then his fucking thighs! I;m still waiting for mine to fill in.

Really good point ^^^^

For me, I have to really concentrate on this. I dont know if its the same for everyone, but it seems to me like the outer head's are much stronger than the inside heads.

I've always worked my calves, they just will not grow. They seem to get stronger, but no size.

If you can find a program called Legendary Calves it's awesome and it literally just takes about five minutes. It might be in pdf format somewhere in the world. The ab program is good too.

Getting fat for 6 years helped my calves grow! LOL
Me too! Carrying around an extra 100 lbs for a few years bulked them up and OMEGA defined them. I think I've developed a really keen mind body connection with my calves. I work them hard and it's not pretty to watch. Once I even had a skinnyass male trainer critique me by telling me "don't hurt yourself" Pffft! Whatever dude.

Also, I love donkey calf raises.

That's been huge to me, right there. Going to failure is really difficult sometimes with your calves because you have to walk on them afterward, lol. Sometimes I am so shakey i have to just sit in my car before I can drive.

I think it is 90% genes.
I have great legs and calves, but lousy upper body, although I spend 75% of my time working out upper body.
To answer your question, I do legs and calves pumps on machine.
I do high intensity, low volume work out.

forget about em and get over yourself. who cares if people dont think you work your legs....calves are all genetics....all i wanted was two more inches on them....tried for 2 years every routine possible and didnt even get a 1/4 an inch...waste of time if you dont have good genetics

Before I used to just do reps, go fast til I started to feel a little burn. A buddy of mine showed me a video of Boyd Epley showing some football players proper form and how to get the most outta your workouts. A lot of my shit changed after that.

i don't trust what anybody says about calves anymore; i don't think anybody's ever started with small calves and made them good.

you either got em or you dont...there is no magic set/rep scheme.
