my favorite weapon

See, I've learned something from the hundred music channels on digital cable. Don't normally listen to industrial rock though

Ministry has been one of my favorites for a long time. i was 14 or 15 when i first heard them and i've been listening to them ever since. even saw them once.

listen to Mind is a Terrible thing to Taste in a car with a good sub setup. first time i did that i was impressed.

so how many years is that then javaguru?

i don't think i could ever cut Ministry from the bands i listen to. i've heard their newer albums and don't think they're all that great, but i'll keep listening to the older ones over and over again, with the exception of i believe the first 2, which were nothing more than dance music.

Animositisomina is alright

their first albums were Industrial at the begining of industrial, it sounds very techno, I like some of it, Halloween is a god tune.

Land of rape and honey is one of their albums though

Lsten to KMFDM?

never listened to KMFDM. Ministry is about as far as i get into industrial. most of my listening is heavy stuff, and ministry just happens to be heavy enough for me. i do run a broad range of music though. you can catch me listening to anything from very heavy music all the way to classic rock, and even the Dead.

and is it wrong for me to think of Misfits music as romantic? it just screams SEX to me, i dunno why.

so how many years is that then javaguru?

I'm 32 now, so ten years. I was married and my wife took it upon herself to "improve me", which included the music I listened too. Yeah, I was whipped. :strider36

dude, UNWHIP YOURSELF. damn. no one is ever going to change what i listen to. there's a few things i won't listen to around my kids, like GWAR and some other really foul stuff, but that's about it.

my music is who i am. it's a major part of me. i grew up playing guitar and completely immersed in music. it was my life for many years. i havn't played guitar in years, and i do need to find some time to get back into it (also need some new equipment). but music has become a big part of me. there's other things about me that could be changed, but what i listen to will NEVER be one of them.

yeah, i do. is that odd or not though that i think their music screams SEX? Glenn Danzig has an amazing voice really. Samhain and Danzig music doesn't really scream it as much though, but it still does. i think it's mostly in how he sings, not what he sings.

I love old-school ministry, Al Jorgesen is sweet. Some of their old shit is really weird, ever listen to Twitch?

drug against war

now Crack, if you like heavy, listen to that song

BTW
Have you ever heard of 1000 homo DJ's?

ministry + trent reznor project band back in the mid 90's. They have some cool songs.

yeah, i've heard of 1000 homo djs, but i'm not too big on reznor. pretty hate machine isn't a bad album, but i think everything he's done since then has just kinda sucked.

too bad i don't have Kazaa up and running anymore or i could check out KMFDM.

I agree, Reznor's shit has gone down hill since pretty hate. Pretty hate, though, is a kickarse album. Wtf ever happened to KMFDM? They kinda faded out of my sights. Another good ministry disc is Land of Rape and Honey. Heroin abuse sure makes some kick ass music...

KMFDM disbanded like in 1999 or 2000
they then toured as MDFMK for bout 2 years and put out one album (not that good). I saw a MDFMK show, what made it god was that they played a bunch KMFDM songs.

KMFDM is back they are touring and putting out new albums. I saw one of their shows Nov, last year. They fucking kicked ass.

IMO
Although pretty hate machine is good, I think Broken was NIN's peak, downward spiral was good too, but didn't have the intensity of Broken, everything since has been shit. It's almost like he's saying "I don't do rock anymore, I do art" or something. I still dig'em though, he is supposed to put out a new album this year. Ihope he has his balls back for this one.

oh, forgot to add....

i have no clue how heroin abuse inspires creativity. pot, yes, i can see that. heroin? eh, well, besides putting you into a bad mindset when you're craving and can't have any, i really don't see how it works. i've seen people addicted before. they couldn't write their name half the time let alone write a song.

Crak, have you seen the Just One Fix video? Fucking hardcore...someone once told me that KMFDM plays real instruments. If that is true, I give them props for that. Were they German? I think the desperation of heroin abuse makes good art, at least some times. Al Jorgensen had another band, I forget the name, Revolting Cocks maybe? Scarecrow is by far my favorite Ministry song, fuckking chilling...

Ahh, Misfits. I used to fukking dig them, esp. the album that had the song "I turned into a martian." Glen Danzing is a fucking badass, actually dude is fucking ripped up. The misfits box (looks like a coffin) is on my to buy list...

Yeah, Revolting Cocks

Ministry hasha dtons of great project bands.

Ever hear of Lard? Ministry and Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys, they have some good shit too.

Yeah, KMFDM plays real instruments, alond with synthesizers, they really do put on a great fucking show.

check out KMFDM.net

never saw the Just One Fix video. "never trust a junkie...."

scarecrow is a good song. Psalm 69 is good as well, but the 2 that are after it (can't remember the names off teh top of my head) i think are more chilling.

Al also had a country band, I forget the name. Wtf kinda name is Revolting Cocks? Crazy. Was KMFDM german?

don't have Greatest Fits. anything on there that's not on the studio releases?

i saw Ministry in 96 at a place in Philly called the Electric Factory. the floor is an open pit, there is a balcony section with a bar, and at the time i wasn't 21, so i couldnt' of gotten up there if i wanted to, but no action up tehre anyway.

me and my buddy worked our way up through the crowd before Ministry came on. me being kinda small, i let him lead the way. when the show started, we were about 15 feet from the speakers. within 2 minutes of the show, i had been hit in one ear, causing a cuff ring to pop out, and some chick that was about 4'10" with 4 foot long hair got her hair caught in 3 of the ear rings in my other ear. that was interesting to pull that out with her still flailing around.

the show was pretty brutal. i was never really into "moshing" because of my size. seriously, there wasn't much i could do in the pit. i'm 5'6" and at the time i wasn't even 150lbs (and i still feel small now that i'm between 165-170). plus with me being as short as i am, it's always a strain to see the stage. so any time i've been in the pit, i've always just tried to work my way up as close as i can to the stage.

Ministry left the stage, then came back a few minutes later for a 3 song encore. then they left the stage again. couple minutes later, the house lights came on. the doors opened, and people started leaving. i had just started looking for my friend, when i thought something wasn't right. i started heading towards the barricade. when i was about 5 feet away, Al Jourgeson comes back out. i forced myself onto the row of people that were still there and at least got to hang off of them for the last song.

i know, SUCH an accomplishment  but i'm proud :D

I'm the opposite, I can't resist mosh pits. I sometimes feel that I am a bit too old for moshing now, so I often try to just find a god spot and enjoy the show, but eventually the excitememnt of the pit gets my adrenaline pumping and before I know it, I'm in te pit boucing around the pit like a pinball.

I think the only song on greatest fits that is not available on other albums is "what about us"

I think the only songs on greatest fits that are not available on other albums are "what about us" and "supernaut"

1. what about us
2. stigmata
3. the land of rape and honey
4. thieves
5. so what (live)
6. N.W.O.
7. Just one fix
8. Jesus built my hot rod
9. reload 12"
10. lay lady lay
11. supermatic soul
12. bad blood
13. supernaut

ministry is good shit. Flashback is one my favorites songs...good for the gym, too. i saw al jorgenson play by himself(flaming lips were also on the bill) back in college down in austin, tx. had a great time....the guy's got great energy.

i forgot who brought up 1000 homo djs, but i actually downloaded Supernaut earlier today before even reading this thread. i heard it on my satellite radio on the car this morning and forgot how good it is.

NIN's new album is supposed to get back to the anger and intensity of Broken. Here's a recent quote from Trent:
"It's more song-oriented [than 1999's The Fragile]," says Reznor. "It's much more lean. It's going to be twelve good punches in the face -- no fillers, no instrumentals, just straight to the point."

Can't wait to hear this and to see him live again as it's been about 4 years. He's supposely doing a warmup tour soon to try out some of the new material on his album. Hopefully Dallas will be one of the stops.

I sure hope trent gets back to edgy stuff. I saw them back in 2000 or 2001 and even though he was promoting the fragile, he did all the songs from broken. It was a great show, except for the fact that I was in a seat instead of the floor.

Dooode, flashback is the sickest song, I forgot that shit. So What is also a great lifting song. Remember Helmet? Their first album was hardcore, Unstrapped I think was the title. Man, wtf happened to good hardcore music? The modern-day equivalent (korn, Manson, slipknot, etc) I just don't seriously. They sing hardcore and dark shit and then go parade around the Hollywood strip like a bunch of flamers. Jorgenesen and his ilk were more blue-collar and badass, not faggy with a fucking stylist and shit...

Do either of you guys listen to Fear Factory?

I kept up with them up 'til Obsolete (which was still OK), i heard their next album, Digimortal, sucked so i never even bothered to check it out. I know they've put out a few more albums since but don't know what they might sound like. Have you guys heard any of their newer stuff?

never heard them. lots of bands i havn't heard of. hell, wasn't until about a year ago that i finally heard Sepultura. man, i felt like i had been living in a cave!

In that case, i highly recomend Fear Factoy's early albums.
Very hard shit, with synths in there too
they are often labeled "cyber" metal

crak, did you ever figure this thread would make it to three pages? Never heard of Fear Factory...have you bros ever heard of Blood Duster? Hardcore shit, great for deadlifting!!!

i thought this thread would die shortly after Christ Mage nailed the lyrics. i had no idea it'd go this far.

btw - it's only on page 2 for me...i few 30 replies per page. 11 more to go :D

I was out looking for new CD's and found a tribute to Ministry "Another Prick in the Wall", not sure how old it is. I have not thoroughly listened to the entire CD, to make a fair review. I mainly got stuck listening to Just One Fix covered by Meg Lee Chin (PigFace singer) and So What covered by Terminal 46 (I cant stop playing Just One Fix, she has a real cool voice).

I uploaded these 2 songs so you guys could check them out, you will be bale to listen to the song (media player should open on your browser) but not download it.
