My diet and exercise journal

Hi guys! I'm feeling super inspired and motivated to hit my fitness goals. I'm 100% committed to this and 100% open to any of your advice or suggestions!

Starting with yesterday because I didn't have time last night to post.

My birthday was on the 16th and was followed by St. Pats day so I had 'free alcohol pressure' on both of those days.. That's all I'll be having this year (I have never been a drinker, or smoker, or anything) ...I've been feeling the hangover throughout my entire body and drinking tonnes of water. I'm so thankful that I managed to say no to all cakes and sweets... I remained on my diet with the exception of the shots and martinis..

Also, yesterday I found a gym!!! A good gym, guys. Which is amazing in this city. I did a free day trial yesterday (unfortunately a bit hungover) but decided to join because it has everything I need, and good vibes.

03.18.12

11:00 - Steel cut oats + Fish Oil supplement + Soy Milk + 5 Raspberries + Cinnamon + Sugarless syrup (i slept in...zzz)

1:00 - pre-workout - 1 scoop of my bf's protein powder

  • 5 min warm-up on treadmill
  • squats (12x25lbs) (12x45lbs) (12x45lbs) (12x45lbs) (trying to practice form and take it easy)
  • leg press (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs)
  • inner abductor (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs)
  • outer abductor (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs) (20x100lbs)
  • seated calf raise (8x60lbs) (8x60lbs) (8x60lbs) (8x60lbs) (i heard you shouldn't do more than 8 of these at a time, is that true?)
  • plate loaded leg extension (12x25lbs) (12x25lbs) (12x25lbs) (12x25lbs)
  • elliptical machine
  • treadmill cool down

3:00 - Post-workout - 1 scoop protein powder

3:30 - Pro-biotic Plain Yogurt + Green Apple + Cherry Tomatos

5:00 - Carrots + Chai Soy Milk + Brazil Nuts + Peanuts

7:00 - Black bean flavored tofu + Baked sweet potato fries + Cucumber + Green Beans + Broccoli + Sesame seeds...

8:00 - Soy Milk with Chai (homemade)

Stretch + bed......zzz..

I'm still figuring out how to manage my diet.. I honestly don't like meat. I eat it anyways sometimes, since I make all of my boyfriends meals with it. I love vegies and fruits and don't have a problem with that... It's the protein that I have an issue with. I don't want to have to eat the same thing everyday but it would be nice to have something to fall back on when I don't have the time or money to be creative. Since I have been doing research and posting on this forum, I haven't had a SINGLE chocolate bar or chip. Nothing. I'm shocked with myself. So that's why I decided I'm going to log here & post daily if possible.

Also I am a noob in the weight room. So I'm starting slow because I don't really know what I'm doing and I don't want to rush into something the wrong way.. I have always been into sports that have kept me athletic and cardio but weights is a whole new thing to me. So if you guys have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thank you :)

Great work on starting your log!! I really look forward to following it!

Do you like fish? Have you ordered your protein powder?

Hey well done for taking the first step. You won't regret this I promise you that.
Protein wise I normally swap between beef steak, chicken, turkey, pork, fish at first It was plain then I started to get creative for variations , I could help you out with a couple recipes if you like. Also when it comes to food or exercise programmes the net becomes the best friend IMO , you google bodybuilding and food then you have more help than you know what to do with. Same goes for programmes ....
I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goals you know you got this huni ;),
If you need anything feel free to pm me

GREAT! I'm happy for you, the only thing i would change is after training your bodys demand for nutrients are at their highest so have a protein shake to feed those muscles.

Thanks :)
I haven't ordered it yet, I gotta go through the process of setting up paypal. So for now I am using my boyfriends protein powder, just sparingly.
I like fish sometimes, but it's kind of expensive, and seems to be difficult to find the good stuff. But definitely a must once in awhile.

Aw thanks!! :) You are too sweet and I am loving the positive vibes :)
I'm really in love with my tofu (it's like my backup plan) lol but I would really love to hear your recipes!! Not much of a steak fan, or a pork fan either. The others I can do if they have flavor (and the fish, it's just expensive, or I would eat more of it).

I was thinking of not drinking protein powder before the gym (I felt kinda bloated) and having 2 scoops afterwards because I am feeling the burn and it's hard to put lots of effort into cooking right after. Either that or maybe I'll cook up some eggs..

Congrats on starting the journal. It is key to results. It keeps you motivated. Can't wait to see your progress.

I've gotten down to 135lbs and decided to change my goal weight to 115lbs... I don't really think that will be too low of a weight for my height (5'6)...

Goals:

  • lose 20lbs
  • gain muscle (proportional)
  • lose the fat legs and ass
  • to continue stretching and become more flexible
  • to have a healthy diet that reflects into healthy skin, energy levels, mood, and body
  • to have a vegetarian diet (doesn't have to be 100%)
  • to feel comfortable in a bathing suit
  • to feel comfortable in the gym
Need:

  • to learn how to eat every 2-3 hours
  • to drink more water
  • to eat more protein
  • to look into protein supplements and other health foods
  • to go to the gym 5 days/week and focus on weights (doing cardio at home)
  • to learn how to use the gym to its max. potential
  • try to eat 200-300 calories below maintenance levels (not forgetting to add in extra calories burnt from workouts)

Feeling FULL. not use to eating so much food.

one thing i would do is add bet servings at least 2 palm size of almonds, They contain Omega 3 fatty acids and micro nutrients!

No need to feel silly girl! Everyone starts somewhere, and you're doing fantastic!

The thing that helped me the most, was to position my hands properly ( there are actual 'rings' on the bar) and if you make sure you are holding it even, say both ring fingers around the rings it helps :). Focus on the movement, bringing the bar down to touch your chest slow and steady as you can. You will loose that shaky feeling in no time. :)

Oh yeah, I think I know what rings you are talking about. The ones that aren't 'ribbed' I will have to try this!! Do you think I should wait a week before doing them again? I'm really sore but if it's Ok to do them a couple days later (3 days) I'm going to try and push it. But I'm not sure if it's Ok I don't want to do damage either...

thnx slat :)
I saw your post about green tea... I am adding more green tea to my diet now :)

Okay will do! Thank ya :)

Your doing amazing huni. A trick I learned is whichever arm is lagging think of that arm and before you know it they will both be equil 😉

aw thank you :) that means a lot to me coming from someone so experienced :)

i did notice my left arm is not as strong and the bar falls down further on that side, kinda freaky

How are you feeling today? What kind of sorness? If you think there is a risk of damage at all, wait!

sorry for this post it's negative.... but last night my boyfriend of 10+ years told me that he doesn't love me anymore..

i'm about to pack up my things, my ride home will be here in 4 hours... and 4 hours after that i start over

alone and unemployed with a dog

i don't care

i haven't slept, haven't ate...

i'm just.....crushed

i don't know....

things were going good...

I'm so sorry to hear that girl! Take care of you, take time to heal and to care for yourself. We are all here if you need anything or need to vent. I know you're going to be consumed with lot's of life dealings, but please let us kow how you're doing.

Hey that's very sad. I believe as one door closes another opens. Let's hope this is soon. Tale care huni and if you need anything just holla

I'm sorry to hear this!! I went through a break up a couple months ago and still am struggling at times to put things back together. I'm here if you need anything!!! My heart goes out to you. Hang in there girl. One moment at a time.

Thanks guys..

Just going to get right back into it... What else can I do. The last couple of days I've probably done a lot of damage... I'm assuming. I have lost my appetite... It hasn't come back to me yet. Just been too preoccupied to want to eat.. So I didn't eat for a whole day and a half... then my mom forced me to eat some chicken, not real chicken, nasty chicken, you know the stuff in the Chinese deli's, I threw the rest of it in the trash... Oh well, whatever. It just really doesn't help that I'm not home anymore, and I should go get some groceries.. I have to get some sleep without messing up my sleeping schedule.. So going to bed early.. waking up at a normal time, I don't want to get accustomed to sleeping in later. Been looking for work all day. Realized I look like a zombie. I want to go to the gym tomorrow after getting some sleep and groceries... Every minute feels like forever yet forever is like torture.

When I went through mine a couple months ago, I had a really hard time with eating too. I am usually a stress eater and overeat and have never lost my appetite before like that. I was keeping a log (have been slacking lately) but called it the douche bag diet!! LOL It served me well in weight loss but I felt like death so even if you can stomach down some shakes, that seems to help. I eventually found I couldn't sleep because my body ached so much from not eating. I'm glad you have some family around. Hang in there!

Keep hanging in there! I know how hard it can be, just remember that everyday is a new day, and every new day has potential to be better than the one before. So take one day at a time to eat better, and get some rest babe!! You need it! If you can stomach some food ( and caligirl has the best advice with even a shake) the gym may help you to feel better about you and help with your stressors. We are all here for you :rose:

You guys are really sweet... I appreciate it.. It's a struggle... but I'm going to work hard to get through it.. I got up this morning... ate some oatmeal.. I will make myself go to the gym. I wish my treadmill wasn't planted 4 hours away.

Spent 3 hours at the gym today. What did I do? Not much really.....

I ran. Sprinted. ran. Sprinted. repeated on like that until my legs were jelloish.

Leg Press - (15x100lbs) 4 sets
Tricep Pull Down (Rope) - (30x20lbs) 2 sets
Tricep Pull Down (Bar) - (30x20lbs) 2 sets
Tricep Overhead with Dumbbells - (20x15lbs) 3 sets

More running. And sprinting. I was zoning out on running today.. and sprinting for 2 mins.... until I just about face planted on the strip.

This gym has a sauna. Really awesome sitting in a sauna and stretching afterwards...

My face is still beating red....

Sorry about the break up. We have all been there. I decided about a year ago I needed to worry about me. I dated different women on and off for a while. Once I moved back to NH I decided I really needed to focus on and all of my goals in life be it daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or life goals. When I date I focus too much on the other person and I regress.
I def miss having someone there but I am realizing who I am again. What is really important. Every second of my day is about bettering me. When I am ready to date again I will be in great position to be available to the other person while still moving forward and growing. I was stuck in a cycle that just repeated itself before. Work on you. Its actually awesome!
All that said, I am impressed you are back at the gym. Keep kicking ass.
You hold the key to your future. Be the best you can be and everything else will fall back into place!!!

I think that's really great advice... I've been starting to realize it for myself... I never have time to focus on myself anymore... not since I was quite young and now it's hard to figure out what to do with all this time... but I think that something positive can definitely come of this. Unfortunately I made myself sick... haven't been eating and now I have strep throat and I've almost shrunk down to my goal weight, not by the method I wanted, and I know it will come back to bite me, fact is it already has I guess.

Getting a membership at the gym across the street as soon as I finish my taxes (because I qualify for some kind of discount)... so as soon as that goes through I should be able to start actually training. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a routine? I'm really terrible in the gym by myself... I use to go just to do cardio and that was all good.... but now I want to focus on building muscle, since I have a treadmill at home anyways... (just picked up all my stuff yesterday)..

so hopefully things keep going okay... :)

my first day at a new job tomorrow. eek.

Hey chic, Well do done your doing an incredible job ESP if you aren't getting to the gym as much and you still didn't cave with diet,

Best of luck for your new job huni. 😉

thanks :)

i am SOO happy i reached 117lbs!! my diet has been pretty boring however. just about the same thing day to day. but hey it has been working.

having a hard time figuring out when to get to the gym. i just got a second job and don't really have any days off anymore. maybe in a couple weeks i will be able to figure out something more concrete. until then just running and some light weights at home. lots of stretching.

hey! i have missed coming around here and feeling motivated by reading your posts and posting stuff! i haven't had so much time with all the drama and changes in my habits and schedule. but things are starting to simmer down a bit and i am ready to hit it harder! i want to change my diet again because i am so bored of it and i also want to start lifting weights... i did two gym tours and just haven't decided yet which one to join. :)

How are you making out Miss? Have you decided on a gym yet? I hope things are going better for you ! :)
