My deadlift update.

I don't do 'em and think they are silly. Time waster and waist expander.
 
someone would be singing a different tune if they didn't have a back that they could take a full year off from training and have it still look like a christmas tree
 
Quite a few pros I know dont' do 'em either.

Seriously, I get the same, if not better results by doing hypers, reverse hypers and a shitload of shrugs. Use the hypers/rev hypers to build the lower erectors and then shrugs to hit the lower traps that tie in with them.

how can you make this statement if you've never done them consistently before? :artist:

you should give them a shot, if not for the tremendous growth they can induce, simply for the sake of shaking up your training. you can't not recognize the fact that this exercise recruits as many muscles as a squat if not more. there is no better trap builder and yes that includes shrugs.

somebody told me(forgot who) that you don't do them because they are extremely hard and taxing.

From what I recall they're a huge shock to the CNS, even more so than heavy squats. I've just done them for so long I don't even question why.
 
I tried them in past, as I have posted before and all it did was made my waist thicker. So I stopped. Plus, those knurled edges on the bar are hell on my leg warmers.
 
Waist growth shmaist growth. The only reason it would thicken up your waist is if your erectors are weak. And even if your waistline gets bigger, it's only noticeable from the side and maybe your wearing one size bigger pants. It doesn't make your waist wider if you're looking at it from the front. You just have improved the hoss ass muscle rivers that flow on either side of your spine. That's one of my favorite areas on a female in shape...the little canal the runs up from the lower back.

DO THEM AAP.
 
Paul Baker, Duffy, Haney, I ain't gonna mention Curly Top, and a couple more that live in Pompano and Tampa.
 
If you juice, i agree you don't need them.

If you are natural, you have very little chance of building a decent back without them through personal experience.

Deadlifts make my traps pop out like crazy. I know of no other exercise that does that for my traps. Plus my body gets much more thicker when I do them on a consistent basis. At my age I don't do a full deadlift anymore but do something similar to a 3/4's deadlift with a lockout at the top of the lift. I did shoulder shrugs for years but they don't come close to giving me the results that deadlifts have. Everybody's different though....

Yep......deadlifts are queer..........................errrrrr......wait a minute......

The only thing that expands my waist is Krispy Kreme...........mmmmmmm....Krispy Kreme............ :chomp:

While I will admit you have superior back development for a homo. ;) .......you could still benefit from deads......either A. Your like one of the guys I train with (also queer as a football bat) and you quit an exercise if you don't see results in a few weeks......or B. You ain't lifting heavy enough.

Where the hell is Revex when I need him....... :)
 
my back is my best feature, and let me tell you, it wasn't that way until I started doing deads and rack deads. now my traps and erectors are fucking sick. i mean my traps were always genetically big, but now they're just ridiculous, and i have these two pipes running up my back. if only my chest responded the same way i would be a monster

saw him do deads then bent over rows fro 225 for reps
 
why are people trying to convert AAP to deadlifts. people are born to do deadlifts or they're not. it's not a choice. that's just the way he was born. he'll always be stuck with that weak back.

I don't know... are you sure he was born like that? I think it was more a choice. :biggrin:

Anyway... I did deads today 500 for 10 (with wraps, I hate flip grip!) for my last set. My waist ballooned up to 75 inches... I think AAP is right. :rolleyes:
 
come to think of it my wiate is blocky

but my back is huge to make up for it :)

religiuos deads and incline pressing gave me a V-taper
 
I don't see the bad in having large waist muscles all around if there isn't too much fat on them.

Also if deads do this, so do squats, and barbell rows.

except maybe those squats with high reps and the bar high on your shoulders or front squats.

Show me a pic of somebody who got too big waist muscles from deadlifting... Dont show me markus ruhl now we all know he's filled up with GH.

500 x 10 is one truely fucking sweet lift. :chomp:

Sure you could do all those exercises and get a good back, or you could just do deads alone and accomplish even better back development. But if you'd rather do all those extra exercises then have fun. :D

Nuh-Uh. I talked with Lee on many occassions when I trained at his Animal Kingdom gym. Two things he has NEVER done is deads and flat bench presses.

The reason you may have seen him doing deads is because of his training videos where as he said, he was basically just following a script while being filmed. He has done stiff leg deads (which I do as well) but not the traditional kind.
