My dad had surgery yesterday....

He has MS and that compounded with the shattered discs in his vertabrae is causing his spine to deteriorate...they too bone and "bone matter" from his hip to fuse his spine together.

Anyone know someone that has had this done before? Curious to recovery.

I've known a few people who have had disks fused due to injury. He'll have back pain for the rest of his life, but it beats laying around in pain while waiting for the disks to fuse by themselves. And, he'll be able to function when he's recovered.

My dad is 46. He had surgery once before to fix the discs....he fell then to cause them to shatter. Now his MS is causing them to waste away.

Sounds like he may benefit from electro-therapy or anything else that will get more blood circulation to his lumbar.

Sorry to hear that, bro. MS is a bitch. A friend of mine's dad had it, so I have some idea of the changes that take place.

Isn't that the procedure that Stone Cold Steve Austin had done a while back. I remember hearing about him having some of his vertabrae fused together.

In any case, best of luck to your father for a speedy recovery.

BTW...........is that a picture of your daughter in your avatar? She is just too adorable.

Thanks all.....

yep 46. Rundown of his life

17 - cut the tip of his finger off...wrapped it in ice...finished his shift then went and had it reattached.
18 - married my mom
20 - had me.
21 - had my brother
21 - diagnosed with MS.
23 - had my sister
30 - shatters discs in his vertabrae.
36 - diagnosed with coronary heart disease - heart surgery
37 - demoted at his job because of his MS
40 - heart surgery
46 - This surgery.

To boot he is going blind from the MS. Through all of this I have NEVER heard this man complain about any of his ailments. You can tell he is in a tremendous amount of pain all the time, but when asked he said he's alright.

This man is a saint and I wish I was more like him.

I hope your dad gets better but with MS prognosis is not good.:(

My father is suffering with Alzheimers and he seems to be deteriorating rather quickly. This past week, he has fallen four times and hit his each time.

I was with him at the drs. office this morning. They are doing a CAT scan this afternoon to see if he has injured his brain.

It's pretty sad to watch a parent suffer knowing there is nothing you can do to ease their pain. My only wish is when he gets to where he doesn't know anybody, something will take him fast and will end his suffering.

yep..MS is pretty tough on the body.

Sorry to hear about your dad. That disease cripples an entire family. My grandparents are showing signs of it.

Keep us updated on the CAT.
