My car needs to be repainted

A few years ago, I bought my car, 96' Nissan Maxima SE, got a greal deal on it.
Anyways though, I was upset because the color was gold and I wanted it to be black, so I figured I'd get a cheap MAKO paint job for it (I was in highschool and still an idiot)

Anyways, as you can imagine now the paint is chipping off quite a bit. Especially around window edges, other edges, and the front bumper.

So I'm going to repaint the car, but this time I'm going to get it done better. But the other thing is that I'm a college student, so I want to get this done for cheap. Maybe do some of it myself (such as the sanding it down, and maybe priming it, and then sending it in to MAKO for them to finish the job)

There are a few rust spots. one on the very bottom of the car on the right side, and the other is up by the trunk near the spoiler :(

I'll post some pics, and maybe you guys can help me decide the best route:

THE FRONT BUMPER:

THE BACK RUST SPOT:

In the mean time, I'm thinking maybe it would just be a good idea to buy a can of spray paint, sand down, and redo the front bumper. That would help a lot.

put a bed and tv in there and this way you can drive from party to party getting fucked up and instead of having to drive home, just go sleep in the back of ur truck...no need for designated driver because u lcan live outside the party or bar

lol,

but parking that thing places would be a bitch.

plus i like my car, i aint selling it. not until the engine dies, and its got only 117,000 on it, so its going to be awhile. :)

Even if you sand it & prime it yourself, a cheap paintjob will still look like crap. I just got a $400 paint job on an older SUV. The truck had been keyed & had other scratches all over it, so even the cheap paint job makes it look better than it did, but anybody can look at it from 10 feet away & tell its not a great paint job---the f*cks were even too lazy to paper over the tailpipe & trailer hitch, both of which now have SOME paint on them.

If you can live with that type of paint job, check your area for high schools or vo-tech centers that do auto body classes---if you can find one, they often will do the job just for the cost of the materials (& they might sand it & prep it for you free too), but they often have a waiting list.

not a bad idea.
thanks, i might give it a try.

Note: the cheap paint job that I got on it 3 years ago looked wonderful right out of the shop. but as the months went on it started chipping.

I'm thinking if I can find a way to make the paint stick this time, then it will be nice.
