My Brother called me

RADAR

Well-known member
From the emergency room, the Ambulance brought him in, long story short, last week he bought one of those "pocket bikes"I call em pocket rockets. He has been looking for a place to ride it, today he had an idea to go to industrial park since all the factories close on sunday.
He was about to leave when a Deputy Friend showed up and wanted to see it go. upon making a turn on some loose gravel he was thrown head first into the pavement, knocked unconcious, deep gash across the nose, ear & chin, serious road rash on the left shoulder busted kneecap. he required several stitches.
The nurse said to take pics of the injuries so when the urge to ride again he could look at the photos.
He is 48 and too old for that crap.

bottom line 4 work days are going to be missed and 1 pocket rocket for sale!

Holy shit! You should have reworded that thread title bro.

Sorry to hear that. It`s just a matter of time before you go down on those things, some better than others, but most people go down.

Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about your Bro...yikes, I bet he won't have the urge to ride his Pocket Bike again for a long while, if at all! They are fun to ride, but can obviously do some damage if your not careful...just the same for any kind of motorcycle! I guess he wasn't wearing a helmet huh? They are small, but you should still take precautions, they get going quick.

you talkin about one of those little tiny 5hp deals? like something a little kid could ride? if so, yeah, those things can get moving if they're built right.

hope your brother heals up soon man. sucks to hear.

what you can tell him, however, is everyone goes down once, and he just got it out of the way...wear some riding gear next time.

good luck and speedy recovery to your bro.

and I'm not capitalizing just because you do

I HATE motorbikes
2 of my friends have died
I will never get on one
how many of my friends have died in cars?
NONE
and al my friends drive cars
but only 2 bikes
both dead
cherish your brother's life
get him off that thing
whatever 'thrill' he achieves from it
teach him to get it elsewhere
soapbox off

I feel the same way. I have had six friends die on them. If that makes me weenie then count me as one.

Sorry to hear about your brother RADAR. May he get well soon.

you need to work on better, more captivating thread titles orb.

Sorry about your brother though. He broke his knee caps, and is only missing a couple days of work?

Thanks guys sorry about the title, I've rode bikes all my life ,and i have had my share of spills on them my last one was having to lay down a 350 scrambler bike on a gravel road the absolute worst of all places to ditch a bike i was 38 and realized then i wasn't 20 anymore.

I believe he has learned a lesson"the cost of fun isn't cheap"

I guess he wasn't wearing a helmet? How about riding gear?

sorry to hear it, things could have been a lot worse though

when i was in greece i walked through a cemetary and there were all these pictures of young, handsome men on the tombstones, so i thought it was relatives using nice photos of dead old guys. turns out i was wrong, and that they have motorbike mania over in that part of the world. the young guys were young when they died. i have lost dozens of family members in crashes and spills. of course, it doesnt help that they have tiny little goat trails for roads, and big beefy harleys/ big jap sport bikes all over the road

anyway, hope he gets better, and learns.

i do want to get one of those little ones though, since i will likely be working in a neighboring suburb, and there is this little footbridge linking them. with a bike, i can just walk it over, and cut the 15 minute commute into a 5 minute one, and avoid all major roads and dramas. we'll see

cheers

Wow Radar

Your brother will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

Do they think it will lave permanenet scarring

All the best man and my sympathies

These are tiny replicas of the crotch rocket bikes, they are not street legal, I rode it once, due to my size i had to make almost 8 attempts before i was able to get my legs up on the pegs
Combining it being top heavy and close to the ground it takes some getting used to in balancing it.
Needless to say it was fun but a very unconfortable ride.

Yeah! they are about the size if a mini bike but the 50cc 2 stroke enguine will take off pretty fast and tweaking the carb you can peak it out to close to 50mph

SIX friends?

WTF! That sucks.

Yes it does. These were friends also and not acquaintences.

Two of them were girls and lived about five doors down from me in high school. They were in my graduating class but died two months before graduating after their motorcycle was clipped by a car and they were thrown off and one hit a street sign (head on) and the other hit a telephone pole (head on). They were riding on the same motorcycle. Massive head trauma.

Two others were brothers I grew up with. They were going home late one night and lost control and both were killed instantly. Oddly enough, no alcohol was involved.

Another friend (next door neighbor in my dorm) was killed coming back from another college after visiting his girlfriend there. Again, no alcohol involved.

A business friend of mine got killed after a car ran a stop light. The car that hit him was also a real good friend of mine. They were going to a college football game and were less than a mile from their house and he ran the stop light. Bad accident all the way around.

I also have a friend who had never ridden a motorcycle before buy a Harley. He was a VP at a local industry here. He took classes for safety and operation of motorcycles. He was with a friend of his practicing on the quiet backroads around here and a dog ran out in front of him. He is paralyzed from the neck down.

I won't even think about getting on one.

Organ donors..............

we like to call them (motorcycles) "Donorcycles" in the ER. The worst stuff I see is from motorcycle accidents.
On another note, I've seen people die from car accidents too. You just never know...but usually the ones that die in car accidents were driving recklessly...not always the case on a motorcycle. You need to watch extra carefully when youre riding a bike. We have a guy recovering still for 4 months now in the hospital, 4 surgeries down, not sure how many more to go. He's had 3 skin grafts too! I know I'll never own another bike after what I've seen.

HumorME is no longer my friend. i do intend on getting my bike back on the road eventually. i don't want to be one of his statistics.

that does suck tho man. still, riding is a freedom like no other. you've got to evaluate how much you're willing to risk. some are more willing to put themselves at risk than others. if you know it's not for you, then that's cool.

My risks are tucked into their beds right now. I know I could die just as easily from driving a car.

As I get older, I want to be around to watch my kids grow up, graduate, get married, etc. I don't want to jeopardize that by trying to ride a motorcycle I have no right to be on.

If I had grown up riding motorcycles then my views wouldn't be so one sided but sadly I didn't.

I actually love to look at motorcycles. I could look at them all day in fact I frequently go to Harley shops and look at them. I just wouldn't ride one.

My wife on the other hand could easily become a Harley chick. She loves to ride on the back of them with the rest of my living friends.:)

I'm glad your brother is only scratched up a bit.
I sure hope he has learn his lesson.

My brother had a wreck on his to and ever since then I've been very scared of them.
