Ok.I'll be the outcast here.My only training music is classic rock.I especially like music from the late 60's or early 70's.Creedence,the Doors,Zeppelin,the Stones.Alot of the music from that era had alot of feeling and emotion behind it.None of that lets-go-drink-some-blood/I-just-popped-a-cop/lets-snort-some-coke-and-jump-in-the-mosh-pit crap.

I actually hate hip hop, either dance or rock, kind of went away from rock a few years ago so i dont really know many of todays bands. In my day (that sounds old) the top bands were faith no more, alice in chains, rage against the machine and metallica, to name a few.

Did get gothed up once to watch marilyn, still like his music.
but alice in chains rule supreme.

depends on what im training also and my mood. make a few different ones and you'll see when youre training if it pumps you up or you're pressing the skip button to the next song.
 
however, for cardio...i do enjoy hard dance/trance/progreseive house stuff. like sasha, digweed, paul oakenfield etc. gets me going, pure adrenaline.

for weights, it's usually more dancy, rappy, stuff with words and slower pace.

I'd have to say Iron Maiden blows away Metallica. They are far better musicians and Bruce Dickinson has a great voice. Blaze Bayley just..didn't have it. Dream Theater were incredible musicians but their stuff was too soft for me.

pop music/dance is the best to train too...a good rhythyms important, and its not too demanding on the nervous system. Therefore, It beats metal.
 
I'm partial to Slayer, Henry Rollins, Tool, Ministry, Helmet, and just about any other music involving pain... :D

X Factor was good, for certain types of songs Bayley was pretty good. Bruce Dickinson's stuff away from Iron Maiden was good too. Chemical Wedding was a great album, Balls to Picasso was....ok. The group Dio was good but all their songs sounded the same. Iced Earth is a very good group, they sound alot like Iron Maiden.

Actually, I loved X-Factor. Fortunes of War is a great track.

Iron Maiden is classic shit but nothing comes close to old Metallica.

I agree Metallica does rule, but to say SlipKnot is 'no talent shit' is beyond ignorance. Have you heard them? Have you heard their new album? One of their biggest influences happens to be Metallica just so you know. Heck it was probably even Metallica that started SlipKnot's guitarists using EMG 81 pickups.

My point is dont diss SlipKnot, theres alot of effort thats gone into the making of their albums, and i hope that you are basing your analysis on the band as a whole and not just the singing.

Just for the record I don't listen to Slip Knot.
However I'm old enough to remember when Metallica was new. Who remembers the Denim Jackets with all the bands stiched every where and the big Metallica patch on the back? Who remembers those kids? I do. We used to call'em Stoners, or Head bangers, Rocker's, whatever.
I remeber that it was all a part of a SUB-culture much like the Goth thing is today. Only when it was new we used to call'em MODS, or just plain old depressing.

mostly RAP while im liftin....not the Nelly/Puffy shit you hear on the radio, but there are plenty of hard beats that dont get much exposure that push me to my limits.....some uhhhhh "rap metal" is it? as well....not the overdone 2001 rapcore either, but the good shit--like Rage Against the Machine's self titled debut (the greatest album for NRG ever)

deftones, nonpoint, sevendust, godsmack, incubus (SCIENCE stuff), nothingface, mudvayne, Soulfly, A Perfect Circle, old staind... plus others.

house, techno, trance for cardio works best for me.

metallica > iron maiden any day.

dickenson > hetfield vocally, sure. but iron maiden songs are a little to fantasy for me. good shit though, no doubt.

anything is better than britney/nelly which they play at my gym back home. that shit makes me want to vomit, much less lift heavy weights.

80's rock plus some newer stuff does it for me. Techno versions of Madonna are awesome for training: nice melody, good rhythm. The old hit "Relax" by Franky goes to Hollywood is one of my favorites for really heavy sets.

Tool (best band ever), System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Mindless Self Indulgence, and Dry Kill Logic (for all you slipknot fans...check out dry kill logic, they are like slipknot but a bit angrier and play much better)

I have to disagree with Dickenson being better than Hetfield vocally. If you listen to Metallica's entire catalog of songs from their first album, Kill 'Em All all the way through their newer stuff like Load, Reload, S&M, etc.... you'll notice Hetfield displays a wide range singing ability (for heavy metal music anyway).

Listen to how effectively Hetfield creates the proper mood for each of these very different songs:

Hit the Lights (Kill 'Em All)
Outlaw Torn (Load)
Master of Puppets (S&M live version)
No Leaf Clover (S&M...I think this James at his best)
Turn the Page (Garage Inc.)
Nothing Else Matters (TBA)

However I do like Dickenson. I even liked Bailey when he was with Iron Maiden. Maiden is a great band and they will go down as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. But Metallica (whether you like them or not) has had more influence on the metal genre than any other band in the past two decades. Their stuff will live forever.

I like Bon Jovi. The other night at midnight when I was doing legs..."Wanted Dead or Alive" came on the radio and I felt like I was on fire. No joke. Just listen to the words. It is a favorite song of mine anyways...but it just made me feel like squatting that night...so it served it's purpose:)

I dont disslike slipknot but i have also read in kerrang that they were orditioned, i dont have any respect for bands like this....i dont really like nu metal much, i dont mind pappa roach and some desturbed but this gothic trend relly gets to me.


Any way, i hope you all can help me, i have loads of questions i need to ask about training....

Hey 6(isc)6, i am pretty sure that there are far more metallica fans around now than there are slipknot fans.
Metallica are great, some of the lads down the club take the piss because i like them, but i aint a dance music fan, well after a win and a few pints..i love it!

Metallica are my second favourite band. The other day i learnt 'shortest straw' by them on my guitar, i love playing it it's great, but the thing that gets me is James Hettfield SINGS as well as plays that, man he is my god, Kirk Hammet also.


The reason i like SlipKnot so much is because they take Metallica and all their other influences and mold them all into one, into music from my generation.



Oh and theres one more thing i should add. I play guitar and the guitar players from SlipKnot are FUCKING AXED. I mean they are really REALLY big.

Mick Thomson is 6ft 3' and BUILT LIKE A VERY BIG BRICK SHITHOUSE, and James Root is 6ft 6' and built like a bull too, definately the biggest guitar players in any band around now. They both tower over James Hettfields 6ft 1', and built to go with it.

So yeah thats another reason i look up to SlipKnot, the guitar players are huge and give me some inspiration to lift.

I think he is shit.....slash from guns n roses has been palying ages....he is fucking awsome, no doubt 1 of the best ever, the guy from slipknot plays shit stuff!
If he is good, but being in an orditioned band over shaddowed by shit.....why dose'nt he leave and paly decent stuff?

Tool is probably the best band ever.

For heavy training Justice for all by metallica was perfect.
Pantera is good for aggression.
Another workout favorite was Megadeths countdown to extinction.

I agree that slipknot is shit.I hate all that poseur nu-metal,
rap-metal crap.I'd rather listen to Ms Spears!
 
I can train with anything but it's funny to see the attitude of the gym change with the songs. My gym has the digital music and the people working there are pretty trigger happy with the remote. One girl always plays top 40 music which I can sometimes deal with but she lets slow songs play through without changing. It's kinda hard to get your swoll on when you're listening to some guy from N'Sync you how much he loves his girl. The looks that go through the gym when this happens are hilarious, the intensity drops, everyone looks at each other with this "what the fuck is this shit?" look and the girl at the desk is humming away thinking of getting married and having babies with this love struck look in her eyes. Play anything as long as it's hard hitting and up tempo....but please no techno. Not knocking anyone but personally music kind of controlls the rythym of my workout and techno is way too hyperactive for me.

How can you say it is painfully obvious, i think every one has heard slipknot and knows they are shite.

Slipknot are crap, i dont think anyone i know likes them, maybe its just a welsh thing.

Come on surely you dont hate SlipKnot that much do you? Come one they're way better than 'Linkin Park' and all that other crap.

Is it because they are so popular? Is that why you hate them? Does the image scare you? It is a bit harsh sometimes.

And your idea of a 'rubbish post' is just about anything i'll post here so i dont know what your on about there, you will like nothing i say so you'd better get used to it and stop crying about it.
