i know it exists when a person stops training then comes back and trains after a layoff....but does it exist in this form:

before i had a good diet. then i ran out of protein and couldnt afford any...so i was eating maybe 100-150 grams/day. needless to say i got soft...does muscle memory exist when it comes to lack of nutrition?

with out proper nutrtion your body will not revert back to the previous larger state.

muscle memory exsists because:

the connective tissues have been stretched previously along with the muscle facia which is like a tight girdle around muscle fibers.
This is why people who were once overweight find it much easier to gain muscle mass--their connective tissue has already been stretched to allow more growth. And why muscle memory is a great thing for serious weight trainers who have taken long lay-offs from the gym..

or you can stretch your tissue with some Rolfing :)

I had this done a few years back - pain personified!
Might explain why my gains are pretty good at the moment
