A few months ago there was a nice poll on mass gains/per year and the solid average appeared to be about 5-7 lbs (muscle mass excluding water, fat etc)
About every day someone posts that they wanna gain 20lbs (or more) of lean mass and I was thinking about this while I cooked up a steak for dinner.
Take a 1lb steak (lean) and if you could wrap it around your arm, or better yet ball up a pound of lean hamburger and place it on one bicep, it kind of puts real gains in perspective.......many people "new" to weight training in general think that 20, 30, or 40 pounds is easily attainable (which it is if you include water and excess fat) but solid mass gains of 1-2 pounds can make the difference between 15" arms and 19" arms.
Quality over quantity.......now take the meat off your arm!
