Mr Olympia ramblings.... (no, I am not going to say Ronnie won)

#1 As a fan of the sport, I am free to critize anyone I choose.

Stop right there, that's all you need to say.

I've never been able to understand why people object to critiques? Why does someone need to prove they can top a performance or particular body of work in order to critique it? I dont think AAP is saying he doesnt respect the work of the competitors by critiquing them. Remember these are big boys who are putting themselves out there knowing they will be picked apart endlessly by judges and fans alike. It goes with the territory and they expect it, or they damn well should.

"Marvelous Melvin Anthony won the first ever award of $9,000.00 and a Sponsored Plaque!
We lost one sponsor due to not being able to present the award onstage at the Mr. O but nonetheless, $9,000.00 is a lot of jack for a posing routine!

Melvin was pressed by Dazzling Darrem Charles but Melvin eeked out the title as the favorite, with a show stopping routine!
Now is the time to thank those responsible for making this award possible!

In my opinion, the Mr O should have just been for the top 4. They should have let Ronnie, Jay, Dexter and Dennis come out there and entertain the hell out of the crowd. The 5th-15th should have been competing in the NOC as far as I could see.

Exactly!

The Olympia used to just be a match between a few of the biggest names in the sport. What the fuck is with them letting in all these bastards who have no hope in winning?

IMO the only people there that deserved to be there were Ronnie (duh), Jay, Dexter, Levrone (If it where not for the injury), Priest (even though he should have been more prepared), and Gunter (I think he needs work but all the media hype practically forced him to go).

as far as all the Gunter bashing goes......I'd like to see anyone on this board over 6'2" fill in that much space better than he does....... :)

Nobody here is claiming to be able to beat Gunter, but that really is irrelevant. Nobody cares about how a Pro Body Builder compares to a few amateurs on an internet chat board. What matters is that he is not even in the same league as Ronnie and Jay. He could still improve of course, but for now he is defiantly not ready to play with the likes of them.

The Olympia was bs this year. Ronnie would have won no matter who entered, and it wasn't a gift. He was truly the best this time around. But all the other guys shouldn't be too proud about placing so high. Didn't Troy Alves get in the top 10? Whats up with that. If the other big boys of the sport would have been there, or not injured (Kevin) or showed up in shape (priest) those no names would have been schooled.

As others have mentioned, they should put the Olympia back to how it used to be. Just get the best of the best out there to compete. There used to be Olympia's where only a few guys would show, because instead of talking smack like todays guys, they knew they didn't stand a chance yet. I'm glad I didn't go this year. I would have hated to pay all that money to see a show full of 2nd and 3rd rate bb's and a guy fresh out of the NPC compete.
