Motivation Dip

The Red Dragon

New member
I haven't been training consistantly since I began school (new University, new gym...sucks more than my last one). My training consisted of 1 week on and 1 week off...never trained 2 weeks in a row. My lifts all went down...I'm sure a lot of this can be attributed to a new environment & new workload stress but in any case it's very disapointing...I would rather not quit lifting. Any tips?

If I were you i'd write my goals down on paper. I'd also put my workout schedule down on paper, making a detailed list of what exactly i'd be doing every week. When i first started lifting seriously, i put my routine down on paper and put it up on the wall in my room where i'd see it everyday. Definitly motivated and kept me focused. Good luck!

Ok...here goes...and seriously.

If you are stressed and have problems making it to the gym very often...you should look at the Old School or DC programs. I beleive that they are 2 and 3 day splits built around the basics and to get you in and out pretty quickly. You could PM Debasser about the program for probably the best information on Elite.

I think that unless you make a decision to do what it takes to reach your goals, it's going to be an uphill battle. I'm not taking anything away from the posts that have been made already, I have a great deal of respect for most of the people on this board. Bottom line is you are the one who has to walk into the gym and handle business. Nothing any of us say will make that any easier. Make a commitment to yourself, that's the best kind of motivation to do the things that are hard for you. Don't let yourself down. Goodluck bro.

Old School is no joke. Size and strength in huge gains.

If you're feeling burned out, then take a planned break and you may come back feeling excited to lift again. That's happened to me...workouts were getting stale, my body was feeling beat up. Time for a break--came back and my workouts were much better.

If burn out isn't an issue and a break isn't what you need, then whatever you do, just do something, anything...don't stop altogether. It's so much harder after you've gotten out of the habit. Switch up your routine...do something different.

Staying motivated isn't always easy...that's for sure.

Thanks for the support guys. I think I'll try Old School, I noticed when I do go to the gym, I just do compounds and don't bother doing accessory/isolation (not that I can call it isolation).
