"Mosque is more important than school"

"Mosque is more important than school"

This is what a 12 year old kid told me at school this week.

The boy in question is a muslim who is always creating havoc. His excuse for not doing after school detentions is that he goes to mosque every night and that is far more important than school. The fact that the Qu'ran says that teachers should be treated with the utmost respect is totally lost on this boy (and many of the other kids). As is the fact that without decent qualifications he wont get a job, therefore wont be seen as somebody worth marrying your daughter of too but will be seen as a scrounging little shit for the whole of his life. I bet his parents are real proud of him........

Oh and this sort of comment is quite common in my school....... sad but true.

See this would be an ideal answer if the governemnt hadnt decided that our school hands out too many suspensions.........hence you only get suspended for mass murder or equivalent crimes.

What I didn mention is that I have accomplished the undoable with this kid........I made him cry!! Seems he couldnt figure out that a 110lb boy has no chance of pushing his way through a 235lb powerlifting teacher :) Once he realised that his bullshit wont work with me he broke down........dumbass. His Head of Year found it highly funny and he hasn't fucked with me since.

when he misbehaves, make him do a few minutes of wall-sits followed by pushups and running.

Oh see that would not be working with the liberal spirit of the school........the acceptable approach is to let him get away with it because he will think about it and feel really really guilty.

what would happen if you did it anyway?

in america, it is next to impossible to fire a tenured teacher. are teachers' unions as over there as they are here?

The first time you would be put straight by a senior member of staff. The second time it would go on your records but it would be tough to fire you immediately. However, over here you have to have a clean record (even somebody implying that you behave inappropriately towards kids can give you a dirty record) so the school could push for dismissal.
