morning vs. afternoon cardio, differences

eck

New member
Many posts saying that doing cardio in the AM before eating a meal is optimal but does anyone have a link to a study that would explain just how much of a difference it makes? is it 5%? 50%? I'm really not a morning person, I like to sleep in and usually do my workout before dinner ~17:15 but if the difference is significant, I might just have to give myself a swift kick in the butt and go in the early AM.

it's minimal.....no matter what people say..........better in am, but minimal.......until you get under 8-9%, then I'd say hit it in the am...........

am or pm, it doesn't matter...........

CARDIO SUCKS!!!!!!!!! lift hard and clean up your diet........leave cardio for the fem natzi biatches.

Do Not Do Cardio any on a empty stomach. You will start burning lean muscle. AM-PM not much diffrence as long as you are doing it. Lifting is not what it is all about. You have to mix in cardio for weight loss and for CARDIOvascular training. Most weight lifter hate cardio. What are your goals...eck

I failed to say I was doing HIIT, not regular 'cardio' so muscle catabolism is not really a concern.

Goals, lose more bodyfat while maintaining/increasing muscle mass.

i was told a couple weeks ago to do my cardio in the morning when i wake up before i ate anything so that it would burn body fat. now im hearing its burning lean muscle. can anyone clarify and let me know the best way to do my cardio and burn body fat, NOT muscle? thanks!

You aren't burning lean muscle with normal cardio. If you were doing hard cardio you might use 10% BCAA's.

If you take the protein right before you keep certain AA levels from crashing which signal usage of BCAA's from muscle breakdown.

If you want to know how much more you burn, I guess you'd look up the study where they studied the subject.

Note, they found that you burned more FAT, but did not find you burned more calories. Why? Because in the AM you are basically in ketosis. It's not hard to figure out, but if you want to burn the most fat you do it in the morning.

cardio is best first thing in the morniong on an empty stomach. or first thing when u wake up............if u like to sleep late do it and go do cardio before u eat. doing it on an empty stomach helps burn body fat that was stored. never hesrd of it burning lean muscle. i only do 45 min. i think if u did an large amount- say 1 1/2 hrs or more it could start burning muscle.
