Mormons, I need to pick your brain.

Underwraps

New member
Okay, I have to come out of lurking just to let the "momos" on EF know that I want to pick your brains. Has to do about relationships and may be from anything from saving your virginity, infidelity, to polygamy. (Not all the usual questions though.)

Just watched Oprah's 2nd family of polygamy guests and she doesn't ask the burning questions I want answers to? Are you willing to try your kindly best to answer them? PM me please.

Thanks. Going back to lurking. I'm SURE EF doesn't want to have in on my new train of thoughts. No, not thinking of converting, just really curious.

Thanks. LDS- stands for Lot's of Devlish Sinners. Heheh. Just teasing. Kind of...

Oh, was reading a thread on here where DABUFFGUY - a Momo (Mormon) was really active. I want to chat with the likes of him and others- male/female. PM me!

Oh, and thanks for restoring my K- Aah, you shouldn't have! Thanks. : ) I gave it all away cuz wasn't using it. I never bomb people...

I'm not Mormon but I do live in their Mecca. I can tell you that polygamy isn't a common thing and that those that practice it are kind of shunned.

Regarding the dogmatic aspect or the culture?

Those who remember me well know that my EF personality bent as it's my outlet is to gravitate towards questions about sex and how they tie into relationships.

You see, for example, I know that in their paradise they may/might take on more wives in their heaven and their eartly 1 and only knows this, but other than the radical fundamental polys, a standard Momo woman would get just as hurt and bent out of shape if the earthly form of her spouse takes on another woman - cheating. But, if that lover were Momo couldn't they rationalize and say she may be a future heavenly wife? They can't legalize on earth and the fundy polys sanctify it in their radical church.

Ah, I could go on and on such as the gap between the weird gap between the pureness and innocence of a "loyal" poly "marriage" and a regular Momo who takes on another woman.

Then there's modern day non-religious polys who have polyamorous live in lovers and the open relationships and the swingers. But, there's no faith or sancitity there. Such a huge gap between the 2 worlds both dealing with multiple sexual/amorous partners.

I am my friend. Have been for a long time. Ask me anything you need to.

As far as polygamy we don't practice it. We used to (Back in the early 1800's sorry don't remember off the top of my head), but haven't for quite some time. A group of former LDS people known as the FLDS still practices Polygamy and is usually the folk you see on TV.

So I was reading the statement above. I'm not a FLDS (Polygamist) so I can't tell you about their particular religious beliefs and practices. As for the LDS we do not practice Polygamy. Also if you commit adultery in the LDS religion you will be excommunicated.

So you wonder why they're mooslim with more prophets?

Thanks for the line out to me. It was explained to me that the reason why polygamy was stopped was not so much to be in line with mainstream american laws, but because the 12 prophets (quarum?) said it was no longer necessary for the churche's purposes- earthly or heavenly I don't know. So, it's true right that there may be polygamy in your version of heaven/paradise? So, a wife you take on knows there may be others later. Will those wives come from earthly souls passed on or from angel/heavenly bodies not ever born into the earth realm? Sorry, this thread has 1 foot in the door of the RELIGION forum, but it may be about sex too.

The excommunication is interesting, but makes sense to save church face. Adultery is adultery if not sanctified in the church... I know that mainstream LDS are a world away from the FLDS- even the normalish ones that will be on TLC's? "Sister Wives". Still they are trying to be throwbacks to a spiritual way of thinking that was existent pre 1800s right?

Read the book "Under The Banner of Heaven". Great books explains the whole religion and the split between modern church and the fundamentalist in a very entraining story that is really about the murder of a newscaster and her baby.

Just a fantastic read!

That's a great question, and I am not sure of the answer. I wish I was a little more versed in eternal doctrine. I will find out for you though! I'll ask around and I'll let you know. I do believe that there was a purpose, or more or less I remember in church meetings references being given to that subject. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time.

As for the Excommunication, it's not necessarily to save face. It's about the personal repentance process. With that process you loose the opportunity to take the sacrament (one of the meetings in our typical 3hr block of church on sunday) in sacrament meeting. The sacrament itself represents some vows you make when you are baptized. So like when that person broke their vow to their wife, you also broke the vows you renew each time you take the sacrament. You also loose the powers, and blessings to any other position you might hold. You don't actually use them, you're just not worthy to use them if that makes sense... The whole purpose of the repentance process is to, in the most basic and layman sense, get that person to understand that they've done something very very wrong (families are the most important thing in the LDS church so it's a huge no no to commit adultery) and that that person should want to never do it again.

I hope I was able to answer some of those questions and the one that I didn't I'll make sure I do.

Feel free to ask anything else! Just remember I'm not going to have all the answers, but I'll do my best to answer them for you or clear up any misconceptions out there that you might have. :D

More than that, they were all excommunicated from the Church over 100 years ago, and anyone who "says" they're LDS but believes in polygamy, is not affiliated with the Mormon Church at all. It's a break-away sub-group (I forget the name), in southeastern Utah.

I have a lot of Mormons in the family, although I am not. But I do have a fair amount of understanding of the Mormon faith, and I agree with some of it.

They're FLDS.

If I scored some Mormon tang, I'd consider it a real accomplishment

just sayin'

It's not easy to keep yourself from audible lolz mid-coitus when you've pulled a chick's garments down to her ankles and are smashing it doggy.

Mormonism wasn't existent pre 1800s.

man, I need to start my own religion. For the money, not the wives. One of those is plenty.

L. Ron Hubbard did it, he used to be a science fiction writer. Can you write a good story?

Seems to me that polygamy was started in the early days of the church when they left the east and headed west. There were so many women and children who's husbands had died and it allowed them to be taken care of, in family groups etc..of course, under direction from above.

I don't think any modern LDS woman gets married thinking she may be sharing her husband with other women, in this life or the next. If the doctrine is there, it's not well known and I would personally question that part. Not that it isn't there but it's not a part of everyday teachings and I think you could ask 100 mormon women and they'd be a little surprised by it.

Somehow the garments would be a big Negative... I have an LDS friend, who told me his erectile dysfunction problem started when his wife told him that Jesus was in the room while they were doing it :whatever:

Hahahaha Classic!

Yeah the G's are pretty lame. But they actually have some legit ones that they make for members who belong to the armed forces. I'm trying to get some of those. I'd be the only kid in town with Black G's! Heck yes! (napoleon dynamite style)
