More New PR's on Flat Bench

Hey everyone! I hit some new PR's today with 315 and 300 on the flat bench. Previously my best was 315 for 5 and 300 for 6 reps. I wasnt feeling the best today, having deadlifted 500 on monday and doing speed bench on tuesday. My chest was still sore. I pushed myself though. I hit 315 for 5.75 reps, just missed the lockout, and 300 for 7.75 just missed the lockout. Not a huge increase, but not bad considering I wasnt at 100%.I followed it up with rack lockouts and only got 425, got 455 up on one side only. Also attempted 370lbs twice, after doing many reps, and only got it up about half way. ThanX for all the encouragement guys!!!

why did you try to max two days after you did a speed bench session? maybe if you waited another day or two you would have done more. not a flame, just a question.

Maxing was an afterthought after already finishing with the reps. Reps were my main focus. After setting two records I just decided to fuck around with 370. Im still focused on getting more reps for now. I accomplished what I set out to do today. Next week should be better. ThanX

Tear it up bro. . be careful about hitting a plateau.

You can always give your body a break and focus on high reps and lighter weights, which will still build your body and this type of training isn't permanent.

You just won't stop, will ya :)!!

I think you should get at 3-4 days rest between speed benches and heavy benches.

Great advice bro! Thats what Im doing now. Im cycling all types of training. Rack deads one week, floor deads another, maybe even rack deads for a few months then back to the floor. Different variations of bench. Once I hit a plateau with the reps for a few weeks, Ill probabally switch back to maxing for a while again. ThanX Louden!!!

Cycling is a great thing. Sounds like you are in total control.

It feels that way now, after finally blasting through some long standing plateaus. I realize I can only alter the weights and reps so much though before I bottom out. For example I can go for a PR with 325 for 5 , maybe once I hit 315 for 7 and things like that, or 300 for 10 , when I get 315 for 7. But I think I can get alot stronger now that Im training smarter. So many different variations to use to keep the training fresh. Ive learned alot on here. ThanX again brother!!
