I am 20 years old and there is this seriously cute Black girl in my University. There's definitely a bit of chemistry there. However, its practically non-existant for white Africans to date Black Africans (I am from Zimbabwe). Its not a race thing, its just that people tend to stay within their own cultures. Does anyone have experience of mixed race relationships and do they work?

Used to have a girlfriend from Hong Kong. We had a successful relationship. In fact, I've had loads of successful relationships!!!!! (LOL)

I had a gf for awhile here in the states that was half black, half white. Gorgeous!
Im sure anything is possible, but its harder.
My situation just turned negative, the rest of the family were black, just totally had a problem with my race, they seemed to be far racist than whites I know...I see that alot here seems like. Always a big deal about race. It like just get over it already.

You have to base your decision on what you want. You then have to deal with the fall out of that decision according to the culture in zimbabwe. No other culture will give you a good guide becuase all nations are different.

Speaking AS A BLACKMAN
I will say this, all my reltionships have been with whites, just happend to be that way, if you like this girl and she likes you go for it, before someone else gets in there, you two can learn sooo much from each other,
yes there will be difference but those differences makes us what we are, soo embrace it and welcome it,
Beside i am sure she feels the same way about you.

You can make it work if you work at it. I was optimistic and didnt really think it would be an issue, but it was. Being treated the way I was by her family especially her brother b/c of my race was an eye opening experience sorta makes you realize what others may go through. Cant say it wont work, just a lil jaded from my perspective. Every situation is different and I think my initial thoughts were the best is that it shouldnt be an issue you consider.

Yes, I think I'll go for it! Relations in Zimbabwe is good. Its the opposition to our tyrannical leader thats the problem. So, can it work? I hope so. Anyhow, we have the most beautiful women in our country. The white girls have lovely golden tans and silky hair and the Black girls are strikingly beautiful too. Once Africa gets into your blood, its there for life. I thank my ancestors for coming here and we (Blacks and whites who love democracy) will outlive our leader and Zimbabwe will be free again.

I don't know if mixed relationships work. I'd like to find out with Halle Berry or Vanessa Williams.

"work"??? Jesus man youre only "almost 20"...how long do you want it to work? Does any relationship "work" anymore? Well over half of them don't here in America, long term. I realize it's probably different there. But, if it's not generally practiced, you may have social pressures to overcome. It's up to the 2 of you. But again...youre only 19, so hit it mang.

It depends:

If both are atheists, then the chances are greater. If it an aculturuless couple, even though there are slight intrinsic differences, it can work.

But:

If they belong to different cultures, the chances are slim because it would be hard for a deep spiritual connection. This would be a clash of cultures situation which would not work in the long run. I believe there are stats that indicate, multi-racial marriages fail 4 times more then non-multi-racial marriages.

So, it could work, but the odds are fairly slim long term. The chance of any marriage lasting a life time is below average (especially if they are not Catholic) alone.

I have no experience in this, but if I loved someone it wouldnt matter at all, I know alot of peoples dont have accepting family, but I would put mine in their place so damn fast if they even hinting at not approving.

They work as long as both people put their own happiness in place of their families's. I've had relationships with people who were concerned about what the Jones' thought or what grandma wanted for them and that makes it very difficult.
