Milk substitutes?

I'm trying to find a good milk substitute. Done w cows milk, makes me bloated. Looked into almond, coconut and soy. Soy seems to be the only one w protein. I also hear back n forth about raised estrogen. What is my best option? Going to use in a shake 2xday. Sick of watery shakes.

I've had some pretty good success just adding 1/3 cup of nonfat greek yogurt along with about 3/4 of the water I would normally use for a shake. Thickens it up and adds more protein. I usually add a packet of splenda to it as well just to kill a bit of that tangy greek yogurt flavor. I've never tried any of the milk subs you mentioned but imo the estrogen concern with soy milk is highly exaggerated based on what I've read.

my endo had told me strictly no soy products because of various hormonal issues not just estrogen..primarily thyroid actually (Ive had thyroid cancer)

my sports medicine doc took me off dairy a while ago and put me on almond milk
the protein is negligible but screw it...there are a gazillion other protein sources available
I usually get almond breeze vanilla unsweetened and use it primarily for whey shakes..the coconut and almond blend is very tasty as well
makes very nice thick shakes

I love almond milk!!! It tasted a bit strange at first, but it has very healthy unsaturated fats, a little protein, and no sugars... definitely the choice for me!

Used soy in muh shake this morning. Was delicious. Only bought a quart. Will buy something else next time.

Here's the scoop...Cow's milk gets a pretty bad rep for some in the nutrition industry because most dieters are lead to believe anything dairy needs to be eliminated form their diet in order to flatten the tummy. While this is partially true, no insight is give really into "what source" of milk can be used an an alternate for those who may be sensitive to it's ever so popular sidekick like soy milk.

For many milk drinkers, they obtain their milk from the local markets where even though they may be "organic" they are still UNNATURAL! After dairy is pasteurized it loses it's key quality enzymes and nutrients that are naturally occuring in the creamy substance when it comes straight out of the cow! This process is what cause a lot of people to be 'intolerant' to milk products, but if they only gave "RAW" dairy a try, they'd notice no embarrassing symptoms at all! Not even a little belly bloating! Not to mention if you were a fan of full fat milk as a child, wait til you taste it unadulterated! There is no scent like store bought milk and it contains more CLA (the belly fat reducing and body composition nutrient) than a hamburger! RAW dairy doesn't just stop at the milk either! If you are a fan of cheese, but avoided it because of the aforementioned whoes, wait until you try RAW cheese! The flavor is impecable and rich and again like the former, it's full fat. This full fat is because it's not processed! More processing, following any pasteurizing like store bought foods only puts more chemicals into our body which causes our body's own immune system to improperly produce needed enzymes for proper digestion! So fat free cheese....yeah! put that crap back!!! Here is a great link on RAW dairy to look at.. .www dot raw-milk-facts dot com
Trust me it's a life changing decision! I originally made the switch while researching the option for a client of mine who suffered from Austism. The change in her behavior with a "cleaner" approach in nutrition made a world of a difference in her health and motor skills within a week of the switch, not to mention is is beneficial for other neurological and mental health disorders. If you live near a Kroger or Whole Foods, Organic Valley, Cabot, and Raw People brands are reasonably priced and offer some cheese in mild or sharp. Sharp is aged longer and can be more expensive than the milder versions. I still eat cheese up until I'm about 5 weeks out and it's because I also eliminate spinach, eggs, and any naturally high sodium foods to ensure proper water balance.
Still not convinced??? Well, your other option if you want to bypass the fatty plant flavor of coconut milk and the extra sugars and carrageen from almond milk...try Flax milk! Yes, it exist!
I swopped it up earlier this week after wanting a light low fat and low calorie version to use in my coffee in the am. It's nutrition profile is attractive and the price is around the same as coconut or soy.
I've attached a picture of the brand I purchased. Good luck!

Soy, almond and coconut are all good. Buy some of each. Chocolate versions are delicious as well. You are right about the lack of protein, but if you are using it in a protein shake who cares. I wouldn't drink soy every day, but mixing it in on occasion would be ok.

Soy is the most pesticide ridden crop there is, stay away from all soy products!!!
