I was talking to a gay, but cute friend of mine about a recent migraine i had that has left me with a bloodshot eye (if that's any indication as to what the pressure from inside my head is like).

I mentioned that i've recently begun feeling a little anxiety and i'm not sure if they are related (the migraines i get once every few months). He suggested doing some coke.

but, that's illegal. and expensive. and doesn't seem like it would work.

i'm thinking smoking some herb might help.

does anyone else suffer from infrequent migraines and if so, what do you take/do when they happen?

sounds all stress related. I would look at something that may have happened during this time period, linking to stress, causing anxiety which in turn cases migraines

^ ^ ^ ^ Is this the source of the stress?

i wouldnt suggest coke, due to possible hypertension issues. Some people get them from withdrawls of substances. But theres alot of scripts out there that work. even some anti-emetics have been working wonders

I press hard with my forefinger and thumb an accupressure point in the webbing between the thumb and forfinger of the other hand. if you are pressing in the right spot, it should feel like a dull ache in your hand. It works when I get headaches, but mine are not so bad as migraines.

i did a lot of coke in college- i wouldn't do it now at all.

the prescription drugs- are they the kind you take every day, or only when a migraine is coming on? because I have around 20 minutes warning (yeah, like the contortionists handbook. exactly like that). the warning is a strobelight starts going off in my eye.

LOL @ coke...

It's one hell of an anisthetic.... I think it would work, for reall... but leads to other issues...

:)

yep,, thers ones that you only take when u feel it coming on. Some are pretty pricey, but sounds like you only get them once and awhile. Imitrex is a popular one. Your warning signs--they donthave color to them. do they?

i get normal headaches once in a while, and can deal with them with tylenol.
the migraines are hard. i thought my eye was going to bust and blood would come pouring out of my ear.
I can't even carry on a conversation.

oh, and clockwork- my life is pretty close to stress free. or as stress free as one can get with kids, but they are really awesome kids.

no color or smell
i suddenly get a strobe light in my vision. i flashing light that won't stop and I can't see. Its still there if i close my eyes and it starts to make me feel weak, dizzy, and lose my appetite. It's dealable, but within around 20 -30 minutes i'll have a migraine so bad I can barely walk or talk. I was alone once and wanted to call 911 because i was sure i had an anurism, but i couldn't get to the phone.
those types only happen ever few years.

btw, if i take 4 tylenol the second i realize the strobe light is there, i never get the migraine.

You should take your blood pressure when u get them. If you have blood vessels poping in your eye, then your pressure is most likely up.

just fyi, u shouldnt take more than 2 grams of tylenol in a 24hr period. its toxic to your liver.

migraines suck

i have to pop 2-3 advil, stay in a dark room with a pillow over my head and sleep it off.

imitrex(prescription) works ok too....but have to take it as soon as the migraine sets in.

smokng weed makes my migraines worse if i already have them.

i only get them about once a month now, when my diet was terrible when i was younger, i'd get them once a week

caffeine actually helps too, i'm not sure by which mechanism

how many grams are in 4?

because I also took an excedrin migraine, and used that 'head on' stuff all at the same time.

at the time, i'd take an axe pick to the head if i thought it would help.

It helps. Try it and report back.

all depends if they are 500mg each or 325mg each. if 500mg you can only take 4 in a 24hr period. now with excedrin, they have caffeine in them, but also have asprin. so be nice to your liver. It might just be a caffeine headache

well since you're already a pothead, I don't think marijuana would get rid of youri migrained otherwise you just wouldnt be getting them to begin with.

i vote heroine.

i don't smoke very often- not too much lately at all until... the end of summer really (growing season)... i thought maybe the anxiety was because I stopped.

definitely. i say you get back on the pot ASAP.

I know that pot was already suggested. My girlfriend gets baddd migraines. Had to go to the hospital a few times because of them. Smoking's the best way to go so she says.

that's cool, cause i didn't really think it was a good solution, i just wanted an excuse to smoke more.

I believe drilling a hole in your head would help relieve some of that intracranial pressure.

Most "migraines" are not migraines so the most important thing is to know the difference between the headache you get with a migraine vs other kinds of headaches. Then try and note what other symptoms you get during your migraine - one can have a migraine without headache.

I take a variety of triptans, what ever I can get my hands on via script or samples I can bum off my doctor as the insurance only covers 9 pills and I can blow through those in 2 weeks - I only take them when I get the headache I can deal with aura issues and nausea.

When other symptoms kick in like nausea, visual aura, tingling in my fingers I make 24oz of coffee and make ice coffee and sip that for a few hours - sometimes it will make the headache less or buy me time to get more drugs if I'm out.

For the actual pain - I stand under the shower as hot as I can stand it and let it run over my head and for a few minutes my scull is so numb I feel no pain. Down side is that by the time I'm out and dried off the pain is throbbing again. After the shower I'll get comfortable in bed with one ice pack at the nap of my neck and the other across whatever side the pain has chosen to lodge itself.

A large bowl of fresh white sticky rice will help the nausea.

I have tried every therapy, drug, diet and whatever freak show bullshit hocus pocus remedy out there and there is no cure (at least for me) - there is just relief between episodes.

Don't fuck around with migraines - if you get them or think your are or know you do get medical help - they're not just a headache.

wow, that sucks.
these are definately migraines, not headaches, but i only get them every few months. sometimes I go a year without getting one and as long as i have immediate access to tylenol or motrin, i can ward it off and be left with just a bad headache, nausea, and tiredness.
when i haven't had anything to take, i'm knocked out by it. wherever i am- i can barely move or think. I had to drive home once with one and I almost passed out.

That was quite a rant huh?

You should get an abortive med (usually a triptan) - they are non-addictive and you should be migraine free in 3 hours. Even if you have one script that lasts a whole year - it's good to have.

thanks. i'm going to go see my doc about it soon- mostly because my eye is still bloodshot from it.
