2007 was a quiet year for me, took a year off of training, lost a lot of size. Even though I was still in school had really a lot less concrete vision on what I wanted to do with my life... I didn't want to counsel, and I didn't want to go another 4 years to teach, so I was in a quandry, I didn't date all of last year or see anybody, cause I spent the majority of last year being more introspective. This wasn't really a voluntary thing, most if not all of my classes force one to examine the self and the patterns of thought that establish perceptions and behavioral choices. Last year was mainly a year of self inquiry for me, which beat 2006, which was a complete mess. However, my question is how is 2008 compared to 2007? Are you entreched in conditioned patterns that prevent you from achieving what you want? Are you more aware of what you want out of life? Are you on automatic just letting these patterns guide you through momentum? Are you making progress in your training, career, or social life. Are issues that have been plaguing you through time increasing in their weight, or are these issues resolving themselves. Are you more entrenched in your relationships, or are you passing your S O on the downslope. Have you met new people? Were you inspired this year verses last year, or have you lost inspiration. Is another transition presenting itself... or is everything the same. How is the future unfolding?

Well with any luck I'll be in the army before this year is out. Just been a shitty year as I can't wait to get out of fucking boring civvy straße.

You probably get a great bonus... I was in the navy, I got there by overreacting to a bad relationship, I actually got dumped, and feeling I had no meaning or some shit like that I enlisted right after I graduated undergrad, learned alot about not so much discipline, but teamwork... but they were mixed lessons... I also now resent authority, atleast I"m pretty sure I do subconciously...
Yeah if you are tired of civilian life, then you made the right choice.

first quarter of the year was good despite my auto accident i guess

2nd quarter sucked my nuts.

however, i dont think anything was worse than 2007 in my entire life

I hear ya CW, 2006 was the most horrible year... 2007 was a breathe of fresh air... now things are unfolding well... so far...
but you got charisma, knowledge, and time... I'm sure if you are willing you can re create what it is you want... you already know how to steer, your question isn't about talent... but you already know all this... so I won't waste your time.

I see really dark storm clouds on the horizon and am all but overwhelmed by dread at what lies ahead.

I can feel that too... for all of us right?
I know what you mean...

I hope not for all of us, but I see shit coming my way. I dunno, it's hard to define, something just feels "off." I'm hoping it's just indigestion or me hating my job right now, but I'm not usually wrong about these things.

That's probably why I've felt myself getting caught up in what I call "nostalgia traps." Looking backwards, instead of forwards. Wishing for what was or might have been, rather than looking forward to what could be. Not looking for new art or film, but going back to the old standards that feel like you're slipping into your most comfortable clothes. Turning to my other languages, French & Biblical Hebrew, to find the words that best describe what's going on inside & outside of me.

I hope it's just me, but if you look around, others are in nostalgia traps too. Look at VH1's "i love the 80's & 90's" series. Their reality shows resurrect celebs Gen X grew up with. At th theatre, you could have seen over the past several years Alien v Preadator, Freddy v Jason, Transformers, TMNT, etc. Still more remakes of Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street (I own the entire series) are on the way for 2009 and 2010. Beverly Hills 90210 is coming back. In general, it seems as though we as Americans would rather be anywhere but here. And now that Gen X has made it to the board room, we have resurrected oiur childhood to make us feel better.

It all seems very "Peggy Sue Got Married." We want to go back. But if we did, would we do things differently knowing that changing any one variable would erase both the bad AND the good from our future?

My entire extended family is from Jax, so yeah I'll say a prayer for UF! I lived there (JAX) for a bit in high school even!

Holy shit... you have to go with your gut JR, thing is I got a good feel for your intuitive sense, that are on the way. However, you brought something interesting... we view time based on past/present/future, this is not true, its merely a construct, yet it determines how we process time, and thus how reality unfolds... time sustains the present by the future always coming yet never arriving... thats how the present is sustained... but what happens is we base everything on 'past time' and so with our inherited conditioned patterns we project the past into the future and just repeat the same fucking music over and over and over... the story of the unchanging self, and we identify so strongly with this story... go into automatic and let momentum take over... and then wonder why we wasted so much 'time'. Go with your gut man... the knowledge is all around you, even the problems and signs those are knowledge... its not indigestion... you are wise dude I can tell, dont' keep conducting like you don't know, when you really do. I won't talk about going inward or patterns cause you are already an introspective dude, but its not indigestion... we both know that.

Overall last year was the best of my life.
It doesn't look like this year will be as eventful, but less stressful.
I'm happy.
