Anyone else use this in a corporate networked environment ?

I.M. Messenging Chat ?

We use is a lot amoung the IT geeks that are scattered across the US..

I love getting a popup and carrying on a quick chat with someone in CA or Colorado without all the phone, email hassle..

Non Geeks, Pls ignore and ... as you were

yep we have Lotus Sametime here but are eventually moving to MSN Corporate once IT upgrades to exchange 2000

Oh yea we use it to chat with techs in our Reading, England and Sydney offices. It's great

msn isn't geekness... seeing as how it comes PREINSTALLED on most xp machines... doesn't take a genious.

I once used MS comic chat (or whatever the hell that thing was called) to talk to some dudes on a Navy carrier to plan a strike mission. Voice comms weren't working and email was too slow, so we went to chat. I was in a bit of a rush... they didn't exactly like some of the language I used when I told them they needed to hurry up with some of the stuff I needed.

Use it all the time. We just got a request for a flash based chat app that lets managers predefine the buddy lists for their employees, so that the employee has to register any non work contacts with management. They claim that they lose 40% of their hours due to MSN. Sounds like an exageration to me, but we are monitoring the in-out for a month starting in january, so we will know how much is the real loss. Looking forward to seeing those numbers.

I don't agree with that at all. We aren't supposed to use AIM to talk with people outside of work b/c it supposedly distracts us. I still above the requested amount of calls each day so I think I should be allowed to chat with whoever I want as long as I'm doing my job. The Sametime app we use has AIM integrated into it so we don't even have to have AIM installed. It helps break up the monotony of this boring ass job

Hey, agree/disagree, your call.

I make what my clients ask for happen, and sometimes that ask for things that I dont agree with on a personal level. I have a very specific list of what I WILL NOT do for a client, and this is not one of those things.

Yea I can understand taking the priviledge away from people who aren't performing. But I think it's one of those perks that can improve moral and break up the monotony. I really like how the company I work for is very lenient when it comes to chat apps, d/l'ing, even internet access. There really isn't much we can't do except d/l mp3's and warez. But if it's legit, they don't mind. Hell I'm on AIM, Mirc, and streaming radio right now at work

External IM access is generally blocked for security reasons..

Same with access to Web Email sites and auto forwarding, other than manually sending/receiving via the Exchange servers..
