Mexico Report from holiday weekend (TJ)

I was in TJ yesterday as well. No problems coming back, I didn't carry it, I had someone else hold it. As far as Holiday's go, my granero doesn't charge more any day than another.

It seems like many of you are interested in what happens to you when you get busted. Well it happened to me once, so I'll share.

I got busted walking across with about 600 bucks worth. They pulled me aside and asked me if I had anything. I repeatidly told them no, finally they asked to search me. Right before they were going to search me I declared (because they would have found them anyway). Since I declared them they didn't fine me or anything. They took my gear, and tried scaring me into not doing it again by telling me they'd arrest me next time no matter what.

Interested story 1 week after that experience, I went back down and smuggled across 1200$ worth. This time I drove across and got sent into secondary inspection. I was shittin bricks this time. Fortunately they found nothing, and let me on my way.

I prefer to drive across because I can hide it in such good places It would take them all day to find the shit. When you walk across you don't have much of a chance if they suspect you. But I don't get stopped too much when I walk, I'd say 1-5 times they'll try hasselling me a little.

Sorry I took so long to respond but here is how it went down:
I stayed in Ensenada with some friends unfortunately I had to leave early to come home for another engagement. I stopped in TJ at the usual granero bought my stuff put it in my pockets. The Clen bottles(2) were too big so I stuffed them under the back seat the rest in my pocket. When I got the border the lady asked the usual question, citizenship, how long and why in Mex and if I am bringing anything back. Everything went smooth till she wants to look in my trunk, its all god nothing there then under the car and finaly in my back seat and under it then I am F**ked. Took me to secondary and nothing else in my car then they decide to search me in that room in the back and the rest is hitory. DEA declined arrest because of quntity. Customs threatened me with everything from seizing my car to a $10,000 fine. When I finaly got released 5 hrs later I got a $5,000 fine which was reduced to $500 if paid within 30 days and a threat that next time I would be arrested.
Why I think led to the search: Only stayed in Mex 1 day, driving alone and the fact that I was driving a Lexus.

Has anybody suspected snitching at any particular granero's in TJ. When I went across I parked at the border and took the bus. I also made some conversation with a group of people on the way back through so I didn't look like I was by myself. All the stuff was jammed in my pockets, I was only concerned about a snitch because I used my credit card down there (couldn't resist it was like being in a candy store.)

Snitching is always a possibility cause you know that the almighty dollars talks but at this granero that I go to is very well known by the bodybuilders and they are always busy and very helpfull. But like I said you just never know.

This is where you fucked up bro

Yeah driving alone is no good. Customs will always believe you went there for a purpose, and not for the normal tourist purposes to get drunk, party, get laid ect.

Driving a Lexus is a no no but not a major one we went in 2002 Cadillac Escalade with 22' wheels but there was 6 of us. This past Labor day weekend.(but I do suggest taking a honda or a real unflashy car)

Shopping in TJ is not cool too many rats just drive 20 min to Rosarito(very fair prices @ a Granero Vet)

We all left our rist bands from the bars and clubs so they can see that we stayed for the weekend to party, as does a shit load of people. Half of us were passed out crossing the border.

lol yeah they change the exchange rate on weekends and holidays heheh you guys kill me sometimes. There are so many misconceptions both ways about Mexico from the conspiracy snitch theories to the 'its a walk in the park' for anyone who wants to know the truth its a happy medium. The snitch and cab thing is WAY overated. That said people get busted frequently EVEN when they know what they are doing. Its nothing more than luck of the draw most of the time, they check alot of folks and many arent as cool as they think when they get the quick questioning. Im not talking shit, but this is real info for newbies especially who may be getting a different idea of mexico based on these boards. Lets run down the misconceptions in this thread:

Driving alone bad: nope although its better to have family in the car - but to say thats a flag in and of itself is bs.

TJ = Hot: false still the safest/cheapest way to go, you dont get popped buying in TJ , rosarito or ensenada you get popped crossing borders. There are as many snitches in TJ as in anywhere and it aint a whole bunch, most people got no clue that they reward for it and the pharms and vets generate alot of money and dont 'encourage' that type of behaivor. While we are at it myth #2: the vets turn you in to get their gear back = false.

The peso to dollar is 9.2 right now in TJ and doesnt fluctuate unless you are an absolute dumb ass and just pull out a wad of money and throw it at them.

Customs if they get you will fine you as long as its not an absurd amount of shit, it doesnt go on your real record in the states, they do keep records but not your personal record that a cop can look up. They always inflate what it is and you will get raped $ wise should you get popped.

Best time to shop: This really doesnt help b/c technically the more people that are there the more odds you have of crossing succesfully, but from what I have observed it doesnt matter when you go how drunk you get or how late you cross, they search all the time to all different walks of people. Even at 3am drunk off your ass with your friends - its been done.

They only search the big guys: wrong - although if your big you should be paranoid b/c they will suspect, but skinny ass white surfer kids, or rave kids get profiled for drugs, ketamine, pharmicutecals (I know sp) so if your smaller dont think your safe.

Cars vs Walking: Doesnt really matter - odds wise maybe one os better than the other but bottom line is they search often both ways.

Im not saying its hard or easy, these are facts though - take them for what its worth.

I agree with Slopain, it all depends on how suspicous or pissed the inspector is feeling that day. You should also hide it better than under the car seat, if it had been in a harder to detect area the inspector would have let you through after her initial inspection. At the initial inspection point they are not supposed to hold up the line for too long, so they will look in the most obvious places.

As you are driving up pay attention to how the lines are moving, there are usually one or two inspectors that are letting everyone through without even coming out of their booth.
